So many ladies are bummed when things aren't purchased off of their registries the week before the shower, I'm not flaming your disapointment, I was there a few years ago. But it just got me wondering....when do you generally buy gifts for showers and even weddings?
Me? I'm a total procrastinator and buy day of or even on the way to the event. I've wrapped a gift or two in the car...I'll admit it!
Re: When do you generally buy shower/wedding gifts?
haha
i'm with you - i wrapped a baby gift in the car, in the target parking lot, on the way to a shower once!
i buy wedding gifts about a month in advance so they get the gift before the wedding and nobody has to lug it anywhere, and so i have good selection...baby gifts, usually the morning of since i'm going to the event.
about 1-2 weeks before event....just depends on my $ budget!
THIS!
I'm a procrastinator, so as late as I can get away with it.
Earlier if the shower is out of town. Earlier if I can't buy the gift in person and have to have it shipped.
If the shower is in town and I can buy the present in an actual store? Maybe a week ahead at the most.

Weddings I'm pretty good about getting in advance. Showers and birthday gifts I'm horrible and usually get it on the way and wrap it in the car.
When I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond in college every Saturday morning in the summer we would print 4 copies of the registries of the people getting married that day so that when the guests came tearing in on the way they didn't have to wait for us to print them. LOL

For weddings - as soon as I know - I hate when there is nothing left on the registry that's good. I usually give a gift for people my age (I'm older) and established (They don't need money.) and give cash to anyone "young" meaning in there 20's because they're getting established (They can use the money towards something big like if they're saving for a hous or the honeymoon or to clean off the registry.)
For baby showers I wait until the week of the shower and usually hate what's left. I'll go off registry if this happens and I know the sex or buy 10 fun kids books like Good Night Moon, Pat The Bunny, Dr. Seuss and put in a BRU Gift Card for them to buys something themselves later. If they don't know the sex I send an additonal follow up gift of gender specfic clothes as well to welcome the baby.
I tend to go overboard though.
Usually I will buy something a week or two before the event. I always buy off the registry if that is an option.
