NBR: Do you have a maid service?

I have never had a maid service come but with a new baby it has been hard to get the deep cleaning stuff done. It's hard enough just getting the every day stuff like dishes, laundry, cooking and grocery shopping done much less take an hour to clean the bathrooms. So we are going to get one until I can get more in a routine. Just curious if anyone else has needed one now. Also, are you supposed to tip them?

  • Not a maid service - but we used to have a cleaning lady (one of the luxuries we had to cut back on). We paid her $50 every other week & she did a great job.

  • No, but I've been considering it. Maybe once a month for a good cleaning, since I just can't get it all done!

  • In my experience, they don't really do a "deep cleaning" per say because they come for 2 hours max, unless you get them for more hours.  It's pretty pricey.  $70.00 for 2 hours.

  • We just started one. She is coming once a month and will stay for 4-hours to do a "deep cleaning."
  • Yep I have a maid service - and I see her every time I look in the mirror...LMAO

  • I would love one!  I have been trying to talk DH into it.
  • I'm hoping when I go back to work full-time in the fall that we can afford to hire a cleaning lady to come twice a month.  I think our neighbor pays about $75 per visit.

    Bwahahahahahahahahaha.  I love it!

  • I thought about it before LO was born since I was in so much pain from the pregnancy, taking care of 2 kids, and a deployed husband.  But I just couldn't do it.  Honestly now I HAVE the time since my daughter is very laid back, I just prefer to snuggle with her etc.  My house isn't dirty but the minor things can wait.  I still need to get into a new routine but so far it has been okay.  When we leave here to move back to the US I will be paying for a cleaning team when we clear housing just like I did when I moved to a bigger apartment.
  • We have one.  Before the baby she came every 2 weeks, now that I'm home during the day she comes every 3 weeks.  The prices people are quoting are way lower than what we pay.  Not sure if it's because of the area we live in or the amount of time.  She spends about 3-4 hours when she comes and totally cleans everything- dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning the kitchen (including any dishes in the sink, the microwave, fridge, etc.) and bathrooms.  It's worth it to me to only have to focus on dishes, laundry, the floors, and basic straightening so that evenings and weekends are family time.

  • I wish I had one; I'm up till 1am every Thursday night cleaning and laundry
  • Yep. We use The Maids, five cleaners come and do a nice good deep clean (the clean floors on their hands and knees - I don't even do that!) every other week.

The money is well worth it, the five of them can do a better job than I can in a much quicker amount of time.
