40wk appt not so great :(

Not such a good appointment. No progress still and my doc did the longest internal ever trying to feel my pelvic area. He's a little worried that in 3 weeks I've had no progress and my pelvic area hasn't spread at all for Bailey's head to engage. He was drawing all over a diagram showing me my pelvic area and what it needs to do. He did say that he's a little worried that I might end up in a c-section BUT he said anything can happen and that we definitely will try everything before it comes to a c-section.

So I'm scheduled to go into the hospital Sunday night to start cervidil then pitocin on Monday morning. The doc said that hopefully the cervidil will do its job and we'll have Bailey monday evening. He did say if the induction didn't work monday that they could possibly do another around of cervidil monday night then pitocin again Tuesday. So he said definitely by Tuesday night I'll have a baby one way or the other. I'm going to get an exercise ball to sit on to try to spread my pelvic as well as trying everything else including having everyone praying that I get to go vaginally. Sorry this got so long I just need to get it out.

  • So sorry for the not-so-great news...it's interesting how you had to work so hard to keep him in there and now he's decided to stay for good! Good luck with everything..I'll keep you in my thoughts!

  • I'm sorry you didn't get the news that you wanted, but try to stay positive!  The good news is that by next Tuesday you are going to have a full-term healthy baby boy!!!  That is very exciting!  I know you don't want to have a c-section, and I'm sending vag-birth vibes your way (LOL!), but if having a c-section is the worst case scenario at this point then that isn't so bad!  Good luck to you!  I can't wait to see pics of little Bailey!

  • I was exactly like you when I was 40 weeks!  I made NO progress on my own.  I was only a fingertip dilated and Caroline had barely dropped.  I got induced at 40 weeks and 4 days the same way they are planning for you.  I got cervidil at 7:30 pm on 7/2 and sometime around 1am my water broke and I had Caroline at 11:54 am on 7/3.  Once my body got going everything just seem to fall into place.  Caroline didn't like the pitocin too much and her heart rate got a little crazy for a while.  My dr got a little nervous and mentioned a c/s (I started crying at even the mention of it and I think she saw how much I didn't want to do it) and they put me on oxygen to try to calm everything down, but that was the only bump in the road.  I delivered her vaginally and it all turned out great.  Just take everything one step at a time and you will do great!  Good luck - I know you are ready to meet that little boy!

I'm sorry the news wasn't what you hoped for.  But, you've still got a lot of time to go on your own.  Oh and btw, I was induced a couple days after my due date b/c my water kept leaking.  It broke for real about an hour after they inserted the cervidil (10pm ish) and I had Colin at 9am the next morning.  So, it could go fast once they start.

Lots of labor dust to you!

  • Sorry about the bad news, but it is very exciting that Bailey will be here soon!  Good luck and keep us posted!

  • Sorry for no progress- but hang in there... you may just be one of those that goes really fast once you get started.  I have a friend who had been on bedrest for the majority of her pregnancy trying to stop premature labor... then she ended up having to be induced almost 2 weeks after her due date!  Funny how that happens sometimes- just means your Dr did a great job keeping him in there and now he doesn't want to come out!  Sending labor dust your way!

  • Sending you labor vibes!!! I had to go the cervidil/pitocin route with my labor/delivery.  I joke that Ava would probably still be in there if she had it her way.  Good luck!!  I am praying for a quick and easy vaginal delivery for you!
