Delivery Gowns

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Are any of you getting your own delivery gowns or are you using the one the hospital gives you?  Poeple say they get their own so it looks nice in pictures and it's so much more comfy than the stiff hospital ones.

They have a lot of really cute ones online, but I can't believe they cost $50+. That just seems like a lot.

Re: Delivery Gowns

  • I'll be using hospital gowns.

I'm using the hospital gown and taking some comfy pj's for after the baby is born.

  • no. you will get blood, sweat, and other fluids on anything you are wearing.  You will NOT look "cute" after you give birth no matter what you are wearing.... save your money.
  • Trust me, you're going to get messy....I wouldn't waste $50 on one that's going to get bloody.
  • I used the hospital gown. I peed and bleed all over it and so it was just better to use there instead of ruining my own.

I bought two of the 'designer' gowns and hated them so I just shipped them back yesterday. I didn't even bother opening them, the colors were SO different from what was displayed on the website (baby be mine maternity). I'm just going to find a nice robe to wear over the hospital gown.

  • I don't see the point in spending that much money on something that is going to get ruined and even if it didn't, I would never want to wear again.?

    Hospital gowns for me.?

  • I am going to make my own...I found a pattern online and I refuse to pay $50-$80 for one online.
  • hospital all the way. Plus you get so sweaty and gross while laboring it's nice to be able to have fresh ones throughout the day.

I did take my own stuff for post-partum this time around and wore that the 2nd day.

  • Hospital gown.  I refuse to waste my money on something that is going to get ruined anyway.  My gown is not what I will be looking at in pictures - it will be the happiness on our faces and the baby we are holding!
  • I would rather spend that money on something more important. I will be using the hospital gowns. Pretty sure people will notice my messed up hair and red face before they notice what gown I was wearing.

  • I like the idea of getting a cute gown...but I'm just not shelling out $50 for one. Maybe if they were more around $20 then I'd consider it, so I'm just sticking with the ugly hospital gown.

  • hospital gown for me.

i think buying your own or even making your own is a waste of money.

  • I bought two cute nightgowns for about $11 total at WalMart.  I don't usually shop there, but I hate hospital gowns, and I plan on using a birthing stool so I hated the thought of squatting over it with my bare a$$ hanging out!  lol
  • I'm planning on using the hospital ones....delivery is a messy thing and I wouldn't want to ruin a gown I paid $50+ for
  • I bought 2 nursing gowns from Aimee (Amazon) but I am not taking them to the hospital.  My SIL loved hers and wore them around the house for weeks (apparently they really don't require a bra, which sounds very enticing after wearing uncomfortable maternity bras).

I am taking a robe (black) with me so I guess I could throw that on... but if it gets dirty, everything should wash out with no stains Wink

  • I'll use the hospital gowns for labor and delivery, but I will bring a cute robe and pjs to wear after for when people visit.
  • I would save your money. The hospital gowns aren't that bad and no one is looking at them in your pics anyways.

  • using hospital gowns for delivery and bringing cute pjs for after delivery.
  • The gowns used at the maternity ward at our hospital were actually really comfortable.  I had to change a couple of times and....... it gets messy, so no. I won't be buying/using my own.
  • Hell to the no.

Birth is bloody.  I don't want to have to wash whatever I was bleeding all over -- I'll wear the hospital gown so that they have to wash it!

I really couldn't care less what I'm wearing in the pictures of me actually pushing the baby out.  I'll change into something cuter once I have a chance to shower, but before that, I'll stick to the hospital gown.

  • Don't waste your money. It is not worth it. I bought 2  "grandma" type gowns for recovery with DD. I never wore them again.

  • I don't remember anything about my hospital gown.. I was preoccupied by all the excitement!

No one expects you to be formal, it's your birthing.. so relax <3

I wanna give birth naked.. all the good parts will be exposed anyway

  • I bought a soft, black, lightweight cotton tank gown.  There is enough give that I can pull it down to BF.  I got it on sale at Nordstrom for $25.

  • I'm using hospital gowns.
  • I'd love to buy a delivery gown, but because of the cost we will be using hospital gowns.  No big deal--most women end up having a picture taken in them and look kinda crappy right after labor anyway.  hehe.
