2nd Trimester

20 weeks... Are you sure you're pregnant? WTF!

So I'm 20 weeks as of today...

This has happened more than once. Now if someone comes up and tells me... you don't look pregnant or you don't look that big... that's fine. But if ONE MORE PERSON says "Are you sure you're pregnant?" and gives me that look of you must be faking or your doctors have something wrong... I'll knock their block off!

I know I don't look huge but I'm not supposed to. My mom carried small through her first and second trimesters and I'm built kind of like her, so it shouldn't be surprising.

Has this happened to anyone?

  • No, I have the opposite problem of people thinking I'm going to pop any day.
  • I got it a lot early on...then I popped out pretty fast.  There's no denying it now.

Well, I guess I could deny it...maybe I just have a weird fat accumulation on my abdomen? lol

It'll pass...next time, ask people if they want you to go pee on a stick, just for them.  It'll shut them up. lol

I am getting quite the opposite..."You're only 14 weeks?!?! Are you having twins??!?!" I am 5'3" with a short torso and had a belly to begin with so I am definitely showing. I am sure it's irritating to hear people say that. What do they expect you to say, "Well, gosh now I am not sure. Maybe I should double check, thanks for the heads up!"

  • I could tell that i was growing all this time and certainly the scale changed, but over the last few weeks i suddenly became obviously pregnant to random people.  i guess i "popped"

  • I was hosting an event at a client site last week and some women were showing off their baby and grandbaby pics. I mentioned I was pg with our first and they looked at me like I was a lunatic. One even asked me if I just found out...um, no I'malmost half way through.

One of my co-workers told me I need to eat less healthy b/c I don't look pg.

  • I get it mostly from my ILs/SIL.  I don't mind.  I just say that I will be big soon enough and then be miserable so I don't mind not being noticeably pregnant.  I take it as a compliment even though she is probably not saying it to be complimentary.  I'd rather be smaller than uncomfortably large.

  • With DS, I got that comment all the time.  I got my first stranger comment when I was 32 weeks.

People are stupid, in general, when making comments to a pregnant woman.

It's so not my fault I don't suck down ice cream like I used to.

  • I think it is the only way people know how to comment on a woman's pregnancy without sounding mean.  They think it is a compliment to tell someone that they don't "look" pregnant.  Almost like "wow, you aren't as big as a house like I thought all pregnant women get."

Personally, I take it as a compliment.

  • At 20 weeks I barely looked pg. Now I look like I'm due any day! It's going to be a long 2 more months...
  • Ya I bet that is frustrating! I have the opposite problem. I keep getting told how I must be going to have a huge baby because I'm already looking sooo pregnant. But I'm only 5'1". Where the hell do people expect me to hide the baby? I'm not exactly built very large!

  • dont feel bad, before i even knew i was preg, everyone was asking me, are you sure you're not preg?  have you taken a test?  and i was totally clueless about being pregnant.  I gained about 20 lbs right before i got pregnant.   As in from the beginning of dec up until concept, the end of dec, i gained that quick.  So when i was only about 3 weeks pregnant, ppl were asking me, are you sure your not preg??  all the time!  it was so annoying, crazy part is, i went and took 2 tests to prove everyone wrong that i wasnt preg, but ended up just proving myself wrong. lol
  • ha! Nobody has commented with those questions, its more like, "wow, ur looking good for 19 weeks" or "lucky."

I'm afraid of the last month or so when I double in size and there will no stopping stretch marks that fast.

  • Yes, it wasn't noticeable for most people until about 24 weeks. The comments/people are annoying. Many, many moms, especially first time moms, do not show very much until well into second trimester. What can I say, people are dumb sometimes.

  • I'm one week from 7 months - and I still don't look that pregnant, except when I'm sitting upright - then I have a ball in my lap, LOL.
  • I'm the complete opposite. My bigger then a lot at 20 weeks I get the ohyour having twins(nope only one in there), you due in the next month or 2(try 4 ?to 5), No way your due in October(yep October 25). It makes me want to scream and hit people up side the head.?
  • Yes. Up until i was abt 22/23 wks ppl wld gawk and say omg your pregnant??? no one seemed to believe... I thought i looked fine.. maybe a little on the small side but nothing to just gawk and comment abt.

And then at mid 23 wks my bump just popped!

  • I keep getting those comments. It's a tad annoying but I don't let it bother me. I just keep thinking I'll be uncomfortable for a shorter period of time. :) I just started a new job last week and when I announced I was 5 months pregnant people were shocked...maybe because I'm currently the same size as all the people in the office.  I am 5'6" with a long torso. I was a size 0 before and am now able to wear a size 6. I intentionally have been wearing clothes that highlight the belly though so people will "get it". I can see a difference on a day-to-day/weekly basis though, so I know eventually my belly will come. I can't wait.
  • Yes I've gotten that too! One friend actually told me "I thought you belly would be huge.. that's nothing there" ummm that's my baby in there thanks very much! Wahtever I just ignore it.

  • I have gotten that comment only up until last week even though I was gaining weight like crazy. I have a long torso so the weight is a little spread out.

yeah, people just really don't what to say so they say stupid things instead of keeping quiet.

  • I was talking to my boss today and I was telling her I was 5 months yesterday and she said, "5 months!!! Where is it?!?!" Um...it's in there. I know I haven't gained much weight, but I feel like there's a bump there. Apparently no one else can see it. I'm not surprised though. My mom didn't start showing until 6 months or so.
