That was a hypothetical. They didn't actually interview someone who said that. The point they were making is that pro-life advocates argue that the test might lead to increased rates of gender-selection abortions. They refuse to even sell the kit in India and China b/c of this.
For $35 I can get a pedicure/manicure that lasts til my 18 week ultrasound, a new shirt for my expanding belly or a gender neutral bouncy seat for my baby.
That is disturbing. I am pro choice but I am not in support of someone getting an abortion because they didn't like the gender of their baby. So messed up.
Ridiculous. I took this test two weekends ago when I went to stay with a friend of mine. I refused to buy it b/c of the cost, but she wanted me to take it so bad that she bought it for me. We only did it for fun. She said she took two during her pregnancy (yes, two) one was a boy result and then second was a girl result. She ended up having a girl. I think it's a fun thing to do if you have $35 to flush down the toilet.

That is so so so unlikely.
Are you saying it is unlikely that someone would get an abortion because they don't like the gender of their baby?

That is exactly what I'm saying.
I'm just thinking of the China One Child Policy, and how many more girls would have been aborted if a test like this were available to Chinese women. Even though the intelligender test is not reliable (or probably accurate more than 50% of the time) I can see women who really want a son believing anything.
Well, I did say unlikely, not impossible. And IMO, anyone that would abort just because of gender disappointment probably shouldn't have kids in the first place.

Yes, in other cultures this is much more likely to happen. At the same time, I don't think we can judge the decisions that parents have to make on family planning in third world countries from our own priviledged American experience.
We have the luxury of viewing our children as a choice made purely out of the desire to be a parent. Children are an economic good in most of the world and parents are depend upon them for the assurance of their own prosperity and livelihoods. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that, from a purely economic perspective, girls in the third world are a drain on their families while boys are an asset. I'm not sure that infanticide or the selling of daughters into the underground sex trade is any kinder than selective abortion of female fetuses.

I agree with you. I'm not judging other countries, I'm just saying that I can see how terminating a pregnancy based on gender could be a likelihood for some people.
Re: IntelliGender on CNN....puh-lease!
Hmm, I can see it. But then again, I'm new to this whole link thing. Here it is to copy and paste if you can't see it.

All things I can rely on.
lemme try and post link.
.
I was just coming to post the article!
Perhaps an actual doctor or scientist would have been a good person to interview for this article

edit: I do see your point, though.
