I am considering the different options for documenting the birth of our baby. Film or Photo? Graphic or discrete? Or just doing pictures after... What did you do?
My labor went by so fast we didn't have time to get the camera out of the car and I really wish I had pictures of his first moments. We weren't allowed to take any pics during the birth, but I wish I had some right after. The nurses did provide us with a disposable camera, but the pictures turned out really bad. I say bring your camera and/or video just in case you want it at that moment. Just remember, once it's over, you can't do it again

With my first son I just had the pictures that my husband or mom took, but with our second we hired a photographer to come in and take labor and delivery pictures and I am so glad that we did, I love looking at my pictures. And no, we didn't get any *graphic* shots, she was great at getting good shots with nothing in there that shouldn't be.

DH and my dad both had their cameras in there for the labor. Then my dad left during the "pushing" because he couldn't handle it. DH took pics of DS once the nurses got him breathing...and by then, my dad was also back in with his camera. I am thankful for those pics. Honestly, I was so exhausted at the time, I couldn't have refused to pics if I wanted to.
hands down one of the best decisions i've ever made - there was so much going and despite my 15 hour labor, i felt like it went by so fast and there was so much i didn't remember - i didn't ask permission to have my photographer in the room - i never even mentioned it to my OB - ReJana just showed up and i figured if anyone said anything, i'd go "crazy pregnant lady" on them
the slideshow gives the complete story and there are no graphic photos - to be honest, i hardly even remember ReJana being there - at one point, she had to leave and Mike took over and even that transition was seamless - some people might be concerned about having a male photographer but 1. you lose all sense of modesty when you're giving birth and 2. Mike saw ReJana give birth so he isn't a first timer - plus Mike and ReJana are close friends of ours so i wasn't concerned - my OB even commented afterwards how impressed she was with Mike and ReJana and said they were extremely professional and discreet
i would absolutely hire someone - like a pp said, you can't get it back - not only do i have a fantastic memory of the day Sydney was born - one day i'll be able to share it with Sydney and we'll have it forever!
Re: To photo or not to photo...
If anyone had entered with a camera while I was in labor I would have killed them with my bare hands.
DH and the nurses started snapping pictures right after she was born.
This. Seriously.

These are amazing! I love that you were putting on lipstick
Thanks! ReJana was great, I forgot she was there at times!!
Yeah, my mom teases me about my lipstick, but dang it, I wanted to look halfway decent in those pictures!
Those were to beautiful! I think I might have to go that route... Wow... Tearing up :, ) So amazing!
This happened to me too. I am bummed we didn't get some pictures of me in labor with DD and as soon as she was born.
Mike and ReJana of BluDoor Studios (formerly Krause Studios) documented my birth https://images.krausestudios.com/sydneyjane/
