I included a digital camera on my registry from babiesrus/toysrus.?
Is that ok to do? I registered for all the normal/basic stuff but we could really use a new camera and will definitely be taking tons of pics of our new baby. WDYT??
I would put that one out by word of mouth if you are going to say anything at all. Perhaps this would work better as a group gift for a birthday present for DH or you?
My DH joked about this last night but we both knew he was joking.
Life is either a daring adventure or it is nothing at all.
I wouldn't be put off by it. But I would not buy it for you either. I would suggest that you add it to the registry, after your shower. So you can get the discount at the end.
i would or at least hit heavily to my mother or mil or a special aunt that i wanted one-then put it on the registery so they knew which one i wanted.
we did this with a new phone system-it has 4 hand helds and works as a room monitor so we didn't need to buy a baby monitor-we can use our phones. i had told a cousin about it, we put it on our registery and then she and two aunts went in on it for us!!! an awesome gift that we use every day! better to have something useful than say a wipe warmer
I wouldn't think it was odd at all if I saw it on a registry. Obviously you want it to take pics of the baby. I don't think it is any different than registering for baby furniture or a rocking chair. If someone wants to buy it for you...fine. Someitmes people would rather buy something non-babyish. BTW...I've seen them on bridal shower registries...so why not baby shower registries?
I too thought I may put it on my register but when I talked to my parents they thought it was a bad idea that people may think is tacky or that I was trying to get other things for myself. I originally thought...well I want it to take all the wonderful pics of my new baby, but I think my parents are right because it isn't something that is specifically for the baby so some of your guests may think your reaching a little or asking a bit much.
I wouldn't think it was odd. I had no idea they had them at BRU. It's a good group gift for office friends or from the grandparents. How will people know you need it if you don't put it on there. They might not want to spend the whole amount, so they might give you gift cards towards it. I am very picky and I have no issue with it. Everybody deserves pics of a new baby.
I wouldn't put something like that on the registry. It is meant for things that are needed for the baby not yourself. More than likely no one would buy it for you as a shower gift. Just because they will know you will need other things besides a camera. If you really want pictures to take of the baby you can get a disposable camera until you can afford one or maybe someone could get it for you as a gift for b-day or christmas.
I see nothing wrong with that. Some aren't even that expensive. A camera is something very special for a parent to have. Those who don't want to buy it for you wont.

If a baby registry is ONLY for baby than why have nursing pads, nipple cream, and other mom things on there? I wouldn't be offended by seeing a camera on a registry. My cousin registered for a digital camcorder, and a group of her aunts went in on it for them. I think it depends on your family and friends and how they feel towards baby registeries. I would ask your mom, mil, and a few close freinds what they think, and if they are offended by that kind of request, than take it off, if they aren't than leave it on. I mean if BRU has it than obiviously many mom's put it on theirs.

IMO, it's just fine. Obviously it's for the baby. I'm amused that at my local BRU there's a wii display, and my husband and I joked about finding something like that on a registry as being inappropriate.
Truthfully, you know your family and friends better than we do. Are they the traditional type, or more anything goes type. That might help you decide.

Because if the mom is going to be nursing the baby she will be needing those. A camera is needed for pictures, but I wouldn't put that on my guests to buy me something like that. To me it is tacky. If she really needs a camera she could always put it on there after the shower and get it 10% after having the baby. Maybe use someone elses camera. She might get gift cards that could be used towards it.
If you want to take advantage of the completion coupon only, put it on after the shower. There's no way I'd have a camera on there expecting someone to buy it for me. If those closest to you pitch in for a camera for you great but I would not have that on a registry where people would see it prior to the shower. TACKY.
I put a cordless shark vacuum on my registry, because I personally think that it is a baby necessity for me. If you think having a good digital camera is a baby necessity, then go for it! A registry is about what YOU need, not what people think you should need.
