I have my big ultrasound today and I'm supposed to meet with my doctor after. I'm nervous because I know she won't be that happy with me. I had gained 12 pds by my 17 week appointment and she had told me I need to watch it going forward because that was too much. I've gained four since then and it was literally within the last few days. My doctor does not want me to gain more than 25 total. I feel like I went out of the gate a little too fast and now I've gotten myself in trouble for the rest of the way.
I need to start making healthier choices! It just stinks that healthier choices do not include ice cream.
Re: Weight (Ignore if you prefer!)
Agreed. I would think unless you are just packing on TONS of weight, you would be ok. 4 lbs. is not that bad between appts. Good luck.
I am up 22 in 20 weeks. But my Doctor will not discuss weight. She says to walk and eat healthy with a little of indulging. She says to just not over do it. I gained because I stopped working out, because I was sick all the time. My goal is to start walking this week as long as this nausea goes away.
I also find this odd... people gain weight at different rates/times during pregnancy...
At my practice, there's really only one doctor that harps about weight- she made me feel like a house, but then the other 4 said things were going along fine...
I agree. I think you look cute and healthy in your pic too!
I'm with ya. I'm short and I have a short torso so my midwife really wants me to stay as close to 25lbs as possible. There's just not room for extra weight to go on my little frame. Try not to worry about it too much and definitely make sure you're exercising (don't over do it) and eating fiber and protein rich snacks.
My midwife also suggested I really limit my juice intake. She wants me to drink pretty much all water and no more than 4oz of juice/sugary drinks per day. She said if I need more juice to eat the fruit.
GL!!!
P.S. you look very tiny in your picture. Hard to imagine you've gained any weight at all.
it's definately hard to figure out how much is too much...
I have gained 21lbs at almost 26 weeks. I feel like it's too much too fast but my Doc says I'm doing just fine! I lost about 120lbs 4yrs ago and managed to keep it off until this LO started growing...so the weight gain really messes with my mind. But you are soooo right...I need to start making better choices...unfortunately my SO loves any restaurant with a drive thru!
one of my friend's sisters is tiny too-probably about 5'2 and 105, but she gained 70lbs during her pregnancy. The baby is about 18 months now and she has already lost it. Not sure if there was any problem with that doctor wise. She probably was too small to begin with.
But your doc might also check your iron and thyroid. If you are hypothyroid you will gain more weight-your metabolism just slows down. Or, have you had your gestational diabetes check yet? That might make you gain more weight too.
My key is-drink water..water water water.a lot of times you may think you are hungry but you are actually thirsty! remember-if you are working out/or its hot outside, you need more than your 8 servings of water a day!
I agree! I think you look great in your pic. Not someone who has to worry about how much they have gained. Just continue to eat healthy and don't worry so much about the number.
I've always been very lucky when it comes to my weight so because of that I'm not an exerciser nor a particularly healthy eater. I have to get better at both. I've definiely tried to get healthier choices into my diet but I should start regularly exercising. Even just walking every day would do me good.
PP- I agree about the 25 pds, it seemed a little strict to me. I know I've gained a little too quickly but at my last appointment I was a little surprised she had said something to me.
I did really good until the month before last and somehow I gained 9 lbs in one month!! I don't know how I did it because I didn't change my eating habits. My doctor seemed a little concerned. she said :that's scary, don't do that again!" so I am at 26 weeks with a 18 lb weight gain. Half my weight gain happened in one month!! Seems a little weird.
I agree with pps - you are tiny! Even if your doc is stringent about weight gain, there are 'new' guidelines, and you seem to be well within those. This is not something you should add to the list of things you are stressing about.
I had my 16 week check up last week and have gained 9 lbs - 7 in the last 4 weeks! I was freaked out and NOT happy, but my doc said it's not a linear thing...there will be some weeks you gain, some you don't. Focus on exercising when you can and just being healthy for the baby, and that's the most important thing.
THIS! you do look really thin!
if you exceed by 10 or more pounds, i'm sure they baby will be ok!
I drink a TON of water. It's either water or skim milk or apple juice. I'm not really a huge juice fan in general so I have that going for me. I haven't been checked for gestational diabetes yet. I'll ask my doc today but I'm betting on it's just my food choices!
This describes me before my first PG. I gained at least 35 lbs (maybe 40) and my doctor never said a word. If it's bothering you, I would say something to your doctor. Those new guidelines just came out and you could start your discussion from there.

I completely agree with the girls! ?You look absolutely adorable, and soooo tiny now! ?You look like its all in the baby bump! ?I can only hope, wish, an pray that I can look that cute when I am as far along as you!
On the other hand....my VERY candid dr told me this...."the only thing that I am strict about is weight. ?I aint having no fat @$$ on my watch! ?If God didnt create it, you cant eat it!" ?His list included....hamburgers, french fries, and white bread which he said "God didnt grow on trees!" ?At 33, "it will hit you like a ton of bricks!" ?I was 125, now 128 with a pretty petite frame. ?So....looks like I will be hitting the gym for the first time since March! ?I love to eat WAY too much to give it up! ?I love my body shape just the same, but I have also read all the benefits of what an "in-shape" body can do for you pre and post delivery! ?
Good luck....and remember....no matter what that dr says....you look adorable!?
