Yay? Nay?
Still on our hunt for a name like Callie. DH suggested Kalea and I love the meaning. I'm just not 100% of the name itself.
Btw, Kalei is the "original" version of this name on one website (which is pronounce Kah-lay-ee) and Kalea was listed as the original version on another. But I like Kalia is a bit more American-ized. Callia is a variant of Calliope, which I'm still hoping will grow on DH someday, and is pronounces slightly differently from Kalia/Kalea.
Re: Kalia, Kalea, Callia?
I like Callia the best
Maybe if you stress to your hubby that she will be called Callia/Callie then he will warm up to having her full name be Calliope (which is so beautiful and classic, but uncommon - LOVE IT!).
Question: If Kalei is pronounced Kah-lay-ee and the other "original" version is Kalea, woul the latter be pronounced similarly, as in Kay-lay-ah? Just curious.
Callista, I think it's a beautiful name and Callie is an adorable nickname. I would just go with the correct name, straight forward spelling and make it wasy.
I'll try to remember all of the questions...
The first response is an AE/troll. That's pretty obvious. But I have to say, I like her so far!
Kalea/Kalia are pronounced Ka-leah. Callia is pronounced Cal-leah. Such a tiny, tiny difference that I just grouped them all together.
Callista got ruined for me by one of my former students. Just an annoying little girl.
We LOVE Callie, but wonder if Callie Riley (our last name, not the MN) is that smart. It's a little too repetative for me. Plus Callie is such a cute name, but to me kind of sounds like a little girls name. I'd like to give her the option of going by a longer name. Which is why I'm on the fence about Kalia... it also very little girlish to me, but that's probably because I never met an adult with that name.
Calliope means "beautiful voice" and in mythology she's the muse of epic poetry.
We're having the same issue! I think that Callie is a great name and I'm in favor of it standing alone and not needing to be a NN for a longer name. (I dislike Calista or Calliope)
We also like a few similar 'K' names, but are getting mixed reactions b/c they're so "different." Our favorite name is Kella, which is Irish-derived and listed on babynames.com, but many people can't get used to it.
If I had to choose out of the names you listed, I would go with Callia or Kalea. The others are a little more tricky to know how to pronounce from the spellings.
I like Callina. that is very pretty.
