OJ before big ultrasound?

My big ultrasound is tomorrow morning and I can't wait! I have to go to a separate office for the ultrasound and when I called the receptionist said no preparation is needed, meaning no full/empty bladder or anything. I really want to find out the sex, so is drinking OJ (or something else) before suggested? Does a full or empty bladder make a difference in seeing anything?

I didn't need a full bladder and we had very clear pictures of Baby Girl. I did have OJ beforehand, hoping to get her moving, but had no luck. She was just relaxing in there.. not moving around except to protest being disturbed.

The nurse at my dr's office said that I need to have 32 ounces of water in me during the u/s.... like that's gonna happen. I can barely keep half a bottle of water in me! I'll probably drink some OJ on the way there because I've heard a lot of people say that it helps the baby to move. Plus, I love orange juice!!!!!

I just had water for both of mine. She was sitting on her foot for the first one, so we couldn't tell if she was a boy or girl then because she wouldn't move...then on the second one she got shy and rolled over after they took the first pic of her...so we have one of her face and then one of her spine. lol

Ours is next week. I am going to drink OJ just in case...it can't hurt, right? I also heard that apples help but that if you did either of these you had to do it a few hours before so it can get into your system. ) My doc said to drink extra water before, but only like 1.5-2 bottles of water tops. Not sure how I will keep that in though....

I was about 18 weeks when I went for mine...and the nurse also told me 32 ounces IF I CAN MANAGE without emptying my bladder. And then as soon as it was done they let me go to the bathroom. Let me tell you I had to PEE! And I've never seen a clearer picture of the baby's wee wee. LoL they say you need a full bladder because if expands everything and leaves the baby less room to move around. None the less I guess it worked.

I had some juice before just to make sure LO was moving. We had a clear pic showing his stuff. I had mostly empty bladder. I went in at 8:20 in the AM - so I wanted to be sure he was moving around,

I drank a Dr. Pepper 10 minutes before my 14 week, he was doing summer saults and going nuts. He kept moving his umbilical cord around, it was cute.?

isnt it weird how every dr. says something different? like the water, mine always says to have an empty bladder. i did hear that oj or something sugary gets baby going so you have a better chance of getting the "shoot".?

My LO kept opening and closing her mouth during the 2nd US...at first I thought I was seeing things on the monitor and then the tech pointed it out. She kind of had her hand up by her face too, so it looked like she was singing for a little while. lol

I had drank about 2 bottles of water just in case I needed a full bladder (I did need one with DS), she tried to get a good picture but because my bladder was full the baby was just all curled up. She had me empty my bladder and the baby stretched out and we were able to get better pictures. It really depends on the office and the technology they have, I guess.

My tech actually asked me to empty mine (much to my relief!) to give the baby some more room to move around. I guess not only is every pregnancy unique, so is every dr!

I had a can of Dr. Pepper & 2 Cinnamin Rolls for breakfast on the way because I wanted my LO to be active so we could catch a picture of whatever was between the legs. He was very active!

Keep in mind the actual purpose of the the 20 week scan is not to determine sex but to measure development. If the baby moves too much and the tech can't get measurements that could be a problem. I would take a small bottle of OJ with you and only use it if needed.

When I went they told me to have a full bladder because it pushes the baby up so you get better pictures. And I did drink some fruit juice before and in the waiting room to make sure baby was moving so we could see the sex. And boy did it work! She was moving around like crazy which was great for us, but it took the technician a little bit longer to measure everything and to look at the brain and heart because she was moving so much...lol! Good luck!
