How many of you are being hopeful of going into labor tonight because of the whole 'full moon' theory?
Personally, I'm not so sure if I'm into the whole theory, even though I have heard that L&D is usually busier on full moons, but I'll use anything as an excuse to be extra excited that tonight could be the night that my LO decides to make her grand entrance!
Guess we'll find out as the night goes on and as tomorrow morning approaches to see how many 'On my way to L&D' and 'Had my baby' posts show up!
To those who are full term and ready: good luck and sending full moon labor dust to us all!
Re: The whole 'full moon' thing...
Red said the effects of a full moon last for 4 days afterward as well. I'm not ready for lo to be here yet but I'm more than willing to allow the full moon to help me dilate some more!
The whole thing about full moons causing you to go into labour that night is an OWT. HOWEVER, 2-4 days on either side of a ?full moon has a marked increase in women going into labour according to studies.
We had a few before tonight... let's watch and see what happens in the next four days.?
I'm hoping to make a visit tonight .... but I doubt I will
I dunno if I buy into the whole thing either
ALTHOUGH .... I am feeling awkward pressure down there and have been having all those "signs" .... but I believe it when it happens
I actually gave my students an extra credit assignment in science since we are studying the solar system and are on the moon. They were told to look up the moon phase for their month and year of birth and find out when the closest full moon to their birth was.
Not all students took advantage of the extra credit but of those that did, none were born on a full moon and the closest was two days afterwards.
I had never actually heard the full moon thing until I came on here, but I was told that stormy nights are always busy at L&D because of the drop in barometric pressure. But this info comes from my doula, who I love to death but is a bit superstitious.
I take this as a huge coincidence for me, but I had noticed that my periods would always come during crescent (at least for all the years that I took note). Full moon came and went close to my due date, and I remember feeling a little hopeful. However, the evening before crescent, I had my manicure (hahhaha) and decided to have a last night of pampering, cleaning my skin, etc. I had a little bit of a pink tinge on the toilet paper that night and woke up at 4am with contractions, just about the same time I used to get my menstrual cramps as well. I was in labor all day and my water broke around 9pm that day. I was 40 wks and 5 days pregnant.
I don't anything about how the full moon affects L&D. but DH is a firefighter/paramedic and always dreads full moons. My mom is a teacher and can always tell a difference in her elementary students during the full moon.
Gravity pull actually is why they say it has an affect mostly AFTER the full moon. The idea is that the gravity pull shifts and pulls the baby down into the birth canal and labour begins.
But I think you may have to dance naked outside under the full moon to actually make it a sure thing.
::Snicker::?
hey- i would have went with it if it happened
i am down with redd's 4 day thing though. If i give birth on thursday we win a $500 gift card to the baby boutique we bought our furniture at
(they have random prize days throughout the year if you deliver on and ordered furniture from them you win!)
Proud mama to a boys- 6/17/09 - a girl 2/23/11- and a boy 8/20/12
::strips of clothes::
I'll be dancing outside
YIPPEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Usually the few nights following the full moon are crazy in L&D! Its definetly some type of gravity things as we have lots of people come in in labour but even more people coem in not in labour but with their water broke. Thunderstorms too also cause it. At least thats what it seems.
Oh and with a full moon its not just that we are busy but the crazies come in and lots of strange stuff happens.
We're supposed to have bad t-storms here tomorrow night. Hmmmm.....

We have had thunderstroms here every day for 10 day and more too come. Makes me feel bad for all the full term Idaho girls living on that prayer
And now I'll be wishing and hoping too.....
Huh, I just checked. I was not born around a full moon, but my brother was born two days after one and DH was born the day after a new moon. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
ETA: And my guess for the thunderstorms is that it has something to do with the barometric pressure.
