Success after IF

DS hates to be swaddled!

I have seen so many of you on this board talk about how your LO's are 3,4, or 5 months old who still love to be swaddled. Why is it that my 1 month old despises being swaddled? Earlier this week he was being particularly fussy after I swaddled him and put him to bed. I was staying up for another hour or so and so I decided to do an experiment. I unswaddled him and put him in one of his sleep sacks to see if this helped. He fell right asleep! The next few nights, he has gone to sleep so much easier and is only fussy when he is hungry or needs to be changed. Is my baby just odd or are there others like him?

  • I noticed a lot of people have babies several months old and being swaddles also. Like your ds my dd hated it too. She ALWAYS came out of it:)

  • We tried every swaddle blanket out there and the only one that my DS could not get out of was the miracle blanket.  My DS hated being swaddled early on as well.  Just keep trying...mine finally got to a point that he loved it.

My DS was just like yours! HATED the swaddle.......but.....LOVED the sleep sacks! When we realized he was not liking the swaddle and started using the sleepsack, everyone was so much happier :)

One DD really needed to be swaddled (still does sometimes) and one was not a fan.  I can't remember exactly when we figured out DD didn't like it, but it must have been pretty early because she looked like she was drowning in the newborn sleep sack!

  • My DS never liked to be swaddled and would always break out of it.  I think we quit swaddling him at around 3-4 weeks old.
