I just found out I'm expecting #2 (yay!), but DS will only be 17.5 months when his sibling arrives and so will still be in diapers I'm sure. We use BumGenius one-size and love them. We have 25 diapers in rotation and do the wash every other day.
So my questions are:
1) With 2 in diapers, how big is your stash? I'm wondering how many more we should get.
2) How often do you wash? Am I going to have to bump it up to every day because there will be more?
And on a sort of related note... DS is pretty big. He's already 24 lbs at just shy of 10 months old. Did anyone's baby outgrow the BumGenius diapers before being potty-trained? We've already unsnapped them all the way so I worry that he doesn't have much growing room left.
Thanks for any advice you can offer! I mostly lurk, but this board has always been so helpful when I have CD questions - probably never would have tried them at all if it weren't for all the helpful tips from you all!
Re: Questions for those with 2 in CDs
My two are 2 yrs apart and my oldest day time PT'ed at 2.5 yrs, just to give you perspective.
?1) I have 33 pockets (mostly BG), plus prefolds as back up for DS. I used a mix of prefolds and KLOs for DS's first four months then DD started PTing two months later so I only had two in pockets for a short period.
?2) Every day/day and a half. I thought I could do every other, but even though I had enough diapers when DS was a NB the diapers would not come clean if I washed too many at once. On the upside, this also meant that I didn't needs 2.5 days worth of diapers x2.?
My 3 y/o is about 33ish pounds and still can fit in to BGs, but they are a little tight. I ended up buying two large fuzzi bunz which is what she wears at night. Those should fit for a good long while and even though she's doing great during the day, I think we'll still be in dipes for night and naps.
?HTH! Its really not as bad as it sounds!
I don't regret CDing two at all.?
1. Our stash is big, but it's not because of having 2 - we just have a bunch bevcause I like to play with them too much! Our main diapers that we're actively using right now are:
- 12 Mother-Ease one size fitteds
-8 one size pocket diapers and 4 sized pocekt diapers for DS
-12 infant and 12 regular prefolds with some flats and a few other random diapers thrown in there.
DD is down to only wearing diapers at nap/bedtime and when we go out still, so she doesn't need as many in a day. That many diapers woud probably let me go every 3-4 days easily, I just like to wash more often than that so they're not sitting too long. If she was still in the full time, I honestly think we'd be good to go with even less than we're using - 30 or so diapers and doing laundry every other day would do the trick. You can always get a dozen prefolds in the infant size and the regular size to have a few to supplement to get you through some time for laundry, too, as a back up.
2. Oops - answered this above - about every other day.
3. The BGs - they'll probably be fine. Babies stop growing at such an exponentially large rate by 1 yr and then they're crawling and walking and usually redistribute their weight a bit, too, so it makes up the difference:)
