Another Hospital Post- St. John's

While we are on the subject has anyone delivered at St. John's. My clinic gives me the choice of St. Johns and United, they are about equal distance from our house and we are still trying to decide. I am leaning toward St. John's because my SIL delivered there and had fairly good experiences both time.

I delivered at St. John's and really liked it.  The nurses were great and the rooms were nice.  There were lots of convient places for DH to run and get food.  The biggest difference would be the parking between the two hospitals.  I know when FIL was at United they had parking passes you could buy so that parking was discounted if guests had parked in hospital lots.

  • one thing to keep in mind is the maternity ward is under construction at St. Johns. I am not sure to what extent just noticed when visiting another part of the hospital. A nurse on the first floor told me that due to the construction they are taking overflow maternity pts on their floor.
  • Thanks for the heads up about the construction. I'm not due until Nov. so I may do some investigation and see how long the project is supposed to take.

  • Hopefully its not too late to reply to this, but I second the post above, my mom was just on a surgical unit on the first floor and in the melee of that busy unit, they said they had two overflow moms from postpartum that were there, so they had to keep the doors locked. If I was one of those two moms, I would NOT have liked that, so find out how long they'll be under construction.

  • I have those same two choices. I have toured both hospitals and really like the feel of St. Johns vs. United.  I know many people who have had great experiences at United. However a friend of mine who did a nursing clinical there doesn't recomend it.  I don't know anything about the construction project going on but I would expect it to be done by November.
