If you waited to buy shoes til your kiddo was walking

At what point did you buy them?

Adam is what I call a stepper... still cautious and wobbly, but he can make his way across a room and back. I can see him using his toes and trying to figure out footing still, so I'm not quite ready to put him in shoes.

I asked at Stride Rite, but never got a good answer. The lady wanted to sell me shoes for a pre-walker.

Re: If you waited to buy shoes til your kiddo was walking

  • We bought shoes for DD when she was walking easily for a few weeks.  Walking easily means that she could go all around the house without falling or hesitating.

  • We bought them when she was walking well enough that she needed a pair of shoes to walk outside. ?(She had a few pairs before that, but only wore them for pics or special occasions.)

  • We bought them once he was walking all over the house.

    I love my crazy child!

  • His first steps were in October and at that time we put him in Walmart "trainers", you get them in the baby aisle.  It was an important transition for him b/c real shoes are really hard on a baby as they are learning balance.  He was full on walking in Dec and I transitioned him to normal hard soled shoes in February.  He needed to be walking straight and confident before I felt he was ready.

  • I only bought them when she was ready to walk outside, and she still only wears them outside, otherwise she's in bare feet or robeez.
  • I got him shoes when he was walking about 10 steps across the room on his own.  It was just about 3 weeks ago that I got them.  I rarely wear shoes (I wear flip flops when I go out) and didn't grow up wearing shoes around the house or yard so that's how Caleb is - I only put shoes on him if he's going to be walking outside.

  • I had DD in Robez until she started to walk more steady, now shes in some half/hard half soft shoes that I bought at target. She is to the point where she is learning to run now and we just tried completely hard soled shoes and she did can actually walk in them now.

IMO stride rite is over rated....

Ditto, but we use pedipeds, not robeez

  • As soon as he was really walking on his own. & could go outside. I got alot of crap from people for not having him in shoes.

  • When he was steady enough to walk outside. Before that we just used Robeez.
  • I bought him shoes when he was consistently walking outside often. ?I knew I wasn't going to put him in shoes at home so he had some soft soled shoes but we didn't get real ones for awhile.
