Birth Stories

Lightning Fast Delivery!

Emma Rose is finally here! I was due June 3 and she was born on June 4th at 3:45am. She was 7lbs 2oz and 19 & 3/4 inches long.

I started having stupid crampy contractions on Wednesday afternoon and they were every 20 minutes or so but they didn't hurt so I went about my business. I did call the doctors office just to let them know what was going on and they said to call back if they got to be 10 minutes apart for an hour. From 7pm-8pm that night, they were 10 minutes apart so we called the docs and they told us to head over to the hospital to get checked. That was pointless because I was still only 2 cm (from Monday) and they sent us home  with the instructions to call the doc if the contractions got to be 5 min apart.

When we got home around 10:30pm I tried to get some sleep although the contractions were a little stronger. At midnight, I woke up to horrifying contractions that were less than 5 min apart! We called the docs back and the answering service told us that the doc would call us back within 20 minutes. There was no way in hell that I was waiting 20 minutes for a return call so we hopped in the car and went back to the hospital. Luckily the hospital is only 10-15 minutes down the street!

By the time we got back into the hospital (which I walked up to L&D) and got checked, I was 4-5 cm and they put in the order for my epidural (thank god!). I was a much happier person once the epidural was in place!

It was about 12:45am when we got back to the hospital and by 3:30am I was fully dialated! The docs asked if I wanted to do some "test" pushes so I did two or three and then they were like "well ok, how about we just push her out!" So about 6 pushes later and a total of 15 minutes, Emma was born at 3:45am. She came out with eyes wide open and screaming her head off!

  • You are lucky you made it in time for an edipural.  I didn't.  Got to the hospital at 6cm, and went to 10 in less than a half hour.  I have an Emma too.  Your daughter's beautiful.
