No Helmet needed yet!!

CHOA did a scan of her head and she is considered mild-moderate and they recommended we hold off on the helmet for now.  There is a strong chance we can correct her head with physical therapy and stretches.

We have been doing the PT and it just a week, there has been a big difference.

Also, they told us there was a 90% chance that our insurance-UHC would NOT cover the helmet--ridiculous!!

  • Well I am glad to hear you don't need a helmet but not so glad to hear about insurance.  We have UHC as well and I despise them!

That's great news!  I hope the PT continues to work and you won't need one going forward.  Why won't UHC cover it, did they say?

They won't cover it because they think it's only for cosmetic reasons.  The CHOA doctor said there have not been enough studies to identify the long-term results of flat head and shifting of ears and forehead.  He did say it could make them more prone to ear and sight problems though.
  • that is wonderful news. here's hoping the pt continues to work well.
  • That is great news!  I'm glad she doesn't need the helmet.  That stinks that insurance won't cover it, but hopefully you won't end up needing it.

  • Yay!  Stupid insurance.......we are so screwed up with our healthcare system, but that's another rant.  Glad for now you can avoid the helmet
  • That is great news! I wish we had gotten a scan sooner than we did. I was going to appts with the neurosurgeon for 6 months before they even sent us over for a scan. We got our official denial letter after our appeal this weekend. Insurance companies suck!
