Like, by what age should kids be PT'd and diapers are no longer appropriate? Is it just an arbitrary number or is there some reason for the cut off.
I've always had 3 y/o in my head as the cut off, mostly because I don't want to still change diapers at that age. Plus, DD will start Pre-School in the fall and the kids have to be PT'd to get in the program and DD will be 2y10m at the start.
What about nightime diapers? We are PTing DD (2.5 y/o) during the day right now and she is doing great, but I don't think that she is anywhere near ready to stay dry overnight, she pee's out of her Huggies Overnights, I could never put her to bed in just a Pull Up or Panties.?
Just curious where others are on this.?
Re: What is the cut off age for wearing diapers?
I've heard of kids going past three. I think it depends on the child, not necessarily a cut off age. Ds will be three next month, I think I can safely say he will not be pt by then
I'm really not sure on night time pting...
a lot of people set a date b/c of a preschool they want their child to go to having a requirement for being PT'd.
my nephew has asperger's syndrome- and he wasn't fully PT until he was close to 5. my sister was so worried he woudl be in K with diapers- thankfully he was not.
it really just depends on the kid and the situation. Boys usually take longer, too... adding in a baby sibling can throw things back, etc.
We aren't going to try to PT Griffin until he's at least 2.5 ore a little older. He's not ready now, and with the babies about to be born- we know it would be a waste of time to try any time too soon.
My girls were day-trained at 2 1/2 and have been accident free for naps and such for well over a year.
But nighttime? No. They've never even been close to dry. Not even once.
According to Toddler 411, my favorite book for for info about young kids, kids without developmental problems (like autism), peds don't consider PT delayed until 4 years old. For nighttime it can be a while longer even.
I don't think there's a c/o per se. I know people sound shocked when they hear or see a three or four year old running around with a diaper poking out of their pants.
I trained Jack at 29m for both day and night. We are done with diapers for another five months until little #2 arrives.
