My husband and I both really like the name Porter. My husband says he doesn't know if he wants to use it because his name is John and he is afraid people will associate a porter john (porter potty). What are your thoughts on this? FWIW, my DS is Jack.?

    In general, I don't think people are going to make that association. His buddies might, but no one else.

    As for the name - I think it's really cute. Go for it!

    I always thought it was porta-potty not porter potty. I've never heard of porta-john, but it could be a regional thing. ?

    Porta-john and porta-potty are the same thing.  But there is no such thing as a porter john.  So OP should be OK with naming her DS Porter.

    I love it, but a porter is DH's favorite kind of beer  lol

    And even if I knew your hubby's name was John, never would have thought of porta potties (which we also call honey buckets here  lol)

    I would never associate it with a potty but I don't like it, just because a porter is someone who carries your baggage (in most English-speaking countries outside of the U.S.)
