Working Moms

College going/working --> SAHM... maybe

I'm pregnant with my first baby and due October 26th. I'm currently going to be doing the working mom thing... I'm currently working two jobs and trying to finish my bachelors degree...

My boyfriend and I are thinking of doing the switch over to SAHM for about a year... just so I can have more time for school too, so that I can also guarantee that I'll finish my degree before May 2011. This all does involve moving in together... any thoughts ladies?

  • I'm not clear on what you're asking.  Presumably if you're going to raise a child together than you would be living together at some point, yes?

  • wow.  I think you need to ask your girlfriends about this one.  If you aren't sure you want to stay in a relationship with your boyfriend, then you shouldn't quit your job, even if it takes you longer to graduate.

  • I think you need to determine first if you plan to stay with your boyfriend.  Having a baby, working 2 jobs, and going to school is going to be hard, but being a SAHM in a relationship that you don't want to be in would be even harder/more unhealthy.

  • Working, going to school, and being a mom is not impossible. So, ditto PPs, make sure you want to be in this relationship (and that he does to) before quitting your job.
  • Whatever you do, don't stop going to school.  Get your bachelors as quickly as possible, so you'll have means to support yourself independently.
  • I think only you can decide about moving in together.  But ultimately, if you are going to school, you aren't SAH... you'll be doing a lot of studying and schedule juggling with classes.  Can you take classes at night to save on some daycare costs, but still get done with your bachelor's soon?
