gotta run to work so i'll make it quick! born free bottles but only because they were given to us by a friend. another friend who's baby has reflux swears by dr. brown's bottles. things really got better when we switched to goodstart formula. it's already partially broken down so it's easier for them to digest. symptoms were spitting up a lot during/after a feeding. don't remember how much she was eating at 2 weeks old, sorry! we had her sleep in the carseat up until 1 week ago to keep her at a good angle for the reflux. pedi said it was fine and she slept longer like that! hope that helps!
We use Dr. Brown bottles and I really like them. ?Originally we were on regular Similac formula but then switched to Enfamil Gentlease because DD was having major gas issues on top of the reflux. ?That switch helped quite a bit. ?Her major symptom was arching her back and screaming while eating. ?This didn't happen all the time, it was at night only and it wasn't every night so it was tough to figure out. ?But DD was also spitting up a lot, sometimes it was clear, and when I would lay her down to change her or put her on her playmat she would gulp air almost like she was swallowing the acid back down. ?We didn't start the medication until she was almost 3 months old but she is much better now. ?At 2 weeks I would says she was eating about between 2-3 ounces every 3 hours. ?Our pedi told us to keep DD upright for 30 minutes after every feeding. ?I also tried to keep her more upright when eating but we still ended up on meds. ?
What symptoms did you see screaming after eating, arching back, discomfort when he burped, and not wanting to be laid flat
How much was your LO eating at 2 weeks old..how often I was BFing then so I dont know how much. And every 1.5-2 hrs.
What did you do to minimize the reflux, besides medication keeping him upright for 15-20 minutes after eating, raising one side of his crib (we put books under the legs)
My dd is on nutramigen, she has a milk protein allergy. She takes axid 3x /day for her reflux. we use dr brown bottles. she has actually been dribbling more after feeds, but I don't know if that's partly cuz she has gotten bigger and probably needs an increase in her meds. she is better though cuz she doesn't cry in pain when she dribbles most of the time. i try to keep her upright after feeds but that doesn't usually help much. And I have no problems now with sleeping since changing her formula. i think she was eating 2-3 oz every 3-4 hrs at 2 weeks, but dont' really remember for sure.
We use Dr Browns bottles. We used to use Similac advanced, but we noticed DD was spitting up a lot and it was coming out of her nose. Usually she'd spit up again about an hour after a feeding, especially if we laid her down. It seemed really painful when it came up (she'd cry) and she'd arch her back a lot. We spoke to the doctor and she said before we tried medication we should try either adding rice cereal to her formula (if it's heavier it will sit better in her stomach and not come up) or just changing formulas to a formula with rice cereal already in it, but she also recommended feeding her less but more often to help with the spit up. We were feeding every 3 or so hours, so I didn't think feeding less would be realistic for DD, plus she was hungry. Adding the rice cereal ourselves just seemed really complicated, so we just bought the formula with the rice cereal in it. I would have gone with Similac, but their rice cereal formula is lactose free, and I didn't want to remove that from DD's diet. So we switched to Enfamil AR. It really helped a lot. She still spits up occasionally, but it's not as bad as it used to be and it doesn't seem painful to her. We also try and burp her regularly so that she doesn't spit up. I think in general because of her reflux it's painful when it comes back up, so we do whatever we can to make sure it doesn't. We also try and keep her upright for 10-20 minutes after a feeding. We'll sit her on our laps or put her upright in a bouncy chair, but I try not to lay her down immediately. You can also try putting something underneath the mattress in your crib, so your LO is on a slight angle. That may help with the reflux, but we haven't done that yet. It doesn't appear as though the reflux is an issue during the night, more so during the day. Plus we've noticed it's much better now that she's all formula and no breastmilk.
What formula do you use Breastmilk (I pump more often than nurse). You could ask your pedi for recommendations
What symptoms did you see The main symptom was DS gagging as if he was struggling to breathe. We told the doctor and he sent him for a test which confirmed it was reflux. This was several weeks ago....now in addition to gagging, he also spits up a lot.
How much was your LO eating at 2 weeks old..how often I was breastfeeding every 3 hours then
What did you do to minimize the reflux, besides medication He is on Zantac and we hold him upright for about 1/2 hour after bottles. We try hard to get him to burp after each feeding. We have one of those wedges that we use occassionally.
What formula do you use - Similac Soy but she also has a milk sensitivity. Which is why i stopped breast feeding at 5 weeks
What symptoms did you see - really fussy about 30 minutes after eating. Would spit up but then swallow it. Could also be from the milk sensitivity. hard to say!
How much was your LO eating at 2 weeks old..how often - ws BF at the time. But eating every 3 hours probably 2-3 oz??
What did you do to minimize the reflux, besides medication - burp very often. Several times per bottle. Keep her sitting for at least 10 minutes after eating. At months old I still do all these things.
