is this silly??

Every month the girls in the neighborhood get together and play BUnco.  Tomorrow night the girl next door is hosting and DH is working nights this week.  So I had to scramble to find a babysitter (only family has ever watched the kids).  My other neighbor thinks its silly to get a babysitter since we are just next door.  You never know what could happen though....tell me I'm not the crazy one

    You mean leave them ay home asleep while you go?  I guess if you have a monitor but I would be nervous too.

    Sorry, but I would never, even with a video monitor. Since it's only next door, why not just move it to your house?

    I already have the babysitter lined up now....and I hosted it last month.  I cant get this place cleaned and set up again this month!

    glad you all dont think i'm crazy too.  Plus I'm going to need a sitter every tues and thurs afternoon in july while I take classes, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity for me to check her out and see if she is trustworthy

    Holy crap! Yes, still get a sitter! The house could still catch fire, someone could wake up bc they threw up, or pooed in their diaper... omg.

    I have run to my neighbor's house to give her something while holding the video monitor, but I would not stay long.  I don't think it's crazy to get a sitter....but I would not call CPS if you didn't.

    I absolutely would NOT go and think it is ok just because you have a monitor.  I don't think its silly to get a babysitter, I think it is smart and responsible.

    You're not crazy. Monitors pick up voices well, but not other sounds. You probably wouldn't hear a fire starting until the smoke alarms went off and it could be too late by the time you got home even just from next door.

    NO you are not crazy or silly. I would not go either without someone in my house...next door or not. As others posted anything could happen and the monitor doesn't pick up all noises. MY SIL and BIL do to the neighbors to hang out after my niece goes to bed and they take the monitor with them but it makes me a nervous wreck just thinking about her in that house alone. Getting a sitter is smart and responsible.
