Anyone have the Mirena IUD?

So I am going to get my IUD put in today and I have heard a lot of horror stories!!!  Pain, cramping, etc...so anybody out there have it and if so what was your experience like???

Re: Anyone have the Mirena IUD?

  • It hurt me slightly going in and I had some cramping that day.  All in all, though, definitely not a big deal.  Smile

  • My insertions wasn't that bad. I felt a little cramping, but nothing that some ibuprofen couldn't handle througout the night.

My biggest issue now is that I am still bleeding since I had it put on 4/29. Full on bleeding and passing clots - not spotting. I am also having the worse cramps that I have ever had in my life. I can tolerate pain pretty well too, but one weekend it got so bad I actually considered going to the hospital. I went to the DR. that Monday and told her what was going on and she did an U/S to make sure that it was still in there and it was. She basically begged me to keep it in and give it a shot. So against my better judgement, I did. I go back on 6/23 and if I am still bleeding then it is coming out. Spotting I can deal with and that is what I expected, this full on bleeding is for the birds.

    Good Luck to you though!

Ditto.  not a big deal at  all!  But I too am having some bleeding/spotting.  I had mine put in 4/9.  My Dr. said it could last for up to 3 months.  Its no biggie, just wearing a panty liner for now.  the first week or so I had to use a tampon.

  • The insertion was a little uncomfortable and I needed to wear a pantiliner that day due to some light spotting.  Other than that it was fine.  No cramping, no additional bleeding.  I also heard horror stories and my OB told me that just like any procedure you will always hear the bad stories rather than the good ones.  I'm sure you will be fine.

Oh...I also took a Motrin before I went, so that might have helped with any cramping I would've felt.
