For the past few days, DD has been going over to the pantry, pointing at the door and signing "eat." Both yesterday and today, she's done it when it was only a little over an hour since she ate breakfast. I tried to redirect her, but she kept crying and going back to the pantry. I do eventually give her a snack (she only snacks on healthy stuff so it's not that big a deal) and she gobbles it down, so I assume she really IS hungry. She repeats this routine again around 5 even though she has another snack around 3:30 p.m. I assume that at this age they don't just eat if they're not hungry, right? I should go ahead and give her food if she's asking for it?
This might seem like a really dumb question, but toddler eating habits are just so mind-boggling!
Re: Do you give DC a snack whenever they ask for one?
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
Yup, they eat pretty often throughout the day and any time they ask for food, they get something. It might just be a few bites of fruit, but they do get something healthy to snack on. They don't eat big meals, and never have, so snacks are the only way to keep them gaining weight at all.
They tend to eat breakfast at 6:30, milk at 9, snack at 11'ish, lunch at noon, snack at 2'ish, milk at 3, often another nibble around 4, dinner at 5, milk at 6:30 (bedtime).
My son has a couple snacks a day. He usually wants a snack (or appetizer if you will), right as I?m cooking dinner. He smells the food cooking, and wants to eat instantly.
So, I give him a couple pieces of a cheese stick, diced up fruit or veggies, or some Goldfish crackers to tame his appetite.
