Pregnant after a Loss

tell dr. real LMP or fake LMP?

So, I know when I O'd based on FF and other symptoms. I went to

https://www.tubal-reversal.net/pregnancy-due-date.php#showdate

to figure out my due date. If I enter my LMP it gives me an EDD of Feb 9, if I enter my O date, it gives me an EDD of Feb 13. Since those are almost a week apart, should I make up a fake LMP to coincide with 14 days prior to my O date. I know that's how they calculate it, and I don't want to go in at what should be 6 weeks for a hb and I'm really only 5 weeks and then have to worry when they don't find a hb.

I know we're not supposed to lie to our dr.s, but they totally blew off the fact that I O'd on day 23 the cycle I got pg the first time, so I always felt like I was going by their clinical due date, but it wasn't really my due date.

Does this make any sense? What do you think?

Re: tell dr. real LMP or fake LMP?

  • No, I would not give a fake date.  Use your real LMP.  Either way you are not going to get an exact due date since you don't know the exact moment of conception and every baby develops at their own rate.  You can keep track of your due date based on O on your own.

For me my doctors due date is 6/23 but my due date based on O is 6/26.  It doesn't make any difference in the end.

  • With my first pg I O'd on CD 36... so my dates were WAY off!  I just brought in my chart and told my doctor about it, and he used the date based on O.  Now I am seeing an ob, and it was like pulling teeth to get them to use my O date, and not my LMP (even though they are only 4 days apart this time) and STILL my u/s say the LMP date... it is annoying!
  • I would tell him the real LMP and tell him that u know your O date too. If he puts your due date at LMP then just ask for a later u/s.
  • Thanks girls... I think I'll keep my ticker based on O date though, it's after my LMP date, so that will be more realistic I'm guessing.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a spazzy freak already, I'm just so nervous!

Yeah, I would use your real LMP and just mention that you think you may have ovulated a little late. The worst that could happen is they tell you either your betas are low or the baby is measuring behind in an u/s and you will know that's not the case because of your late O date.

My baby did not get the memo that I O'd 3 days late... s/he measured 3 days ahead of my O-based conception date!

  • I would tell the doc the truth and use the O date for yourself.  My doc still uses LMP and I just smile at him and kind of giggle when for example at yesterdays appointment says "almost 23 weeks".  DH knows that I calculate 23 weeks as the day before our appointment and the big u/s had the baby measuring a week ahead by even my calcs and doc still uses LMP.  It has become our own private joke! • I wish I had! I tried to explain the whole o date vs. lmp date to the nurse who put the initial EDD on my charts ad she actually told me it didn't make any difference!! Arrgggg!

If it will save you worry and frustration make up a date! There is no medical need for them to know your lmp date other than calculating an EDD...

  • No I would not lie to my doc. Give them the real LMP and show them your chart. Also tell them you'd like to wait an extra week to get a u/s to make sure the h/b has started. I waited until what I thought was 8w for my first u/s. My doc then determined my edd from the u/s. Even knowing when you Oed just automatically give you the correct edd. I implanted later so my edd is 6/9 not 6/6 like FF said. Oh and my LMP was 6/1.

  • It's not an exact science.  Just know in your head that if there are any issues with baby measuring a few days "behind" based on LMP that it is actually normal and right on with your O date.  I O'd on CD20 and if I go by that, I'm due 7/19, not 7/14.  Baby has been measuring right on with my 7/14 date so it doesn't bother me much.  I would just make them aware of your O date being a little later and let them use LMP.
  • I wouldn't bother with a 4 day difference.

But I did give a fake date to my midwife.  My lmp was March 24.  But I ovulated on cd 26, or nearly 2 full weeks after when the conception wheel suggests.  I gave her an lmp of March 31 and told her I ovulated late, so that the dates would be closer.  But in my case, we run into legal complications based on what is in my file, and she would have to transfer care at 42 weeks.  So I felt comfortable with that.

Even then, the u/s measured me behind my O-based edd.  They usually don't care unless it's more than 7 days difference, especially because scientifically speaking, charting is only accurate to within +/- 3 days.

  • I would not lie to them, but I would stress the late O.  I calculated my EDD based on my O date (which gives me an earlier O date than my LMP).  My midwives are using my LMP anyway, but I know the truth so it doesn't matter.  And can't you just schedule your first appt for later so that you make sure you see the hb?
  • I think you should be honest with your OB.  Your EDD could change again and again throughout the pg based on u/s anyway.

You don't actually know when you O'ed, no one does.  You used a method to guess that you O'ed, but in the end it doesn't really mean a whole lot.  Those dates aren't too far apart, I would not sweat it too much.

  • My real O was about a week later than the typical 14 day O they use to calculate edds.  My doctor gave me my edd based on my first u/s and then said it's a range and ranged it from that date to a week earlier, which encompassed both my lmp and my date based on O.  So it didn't matter one bit.

Well, I think it depends on your Dr.  With the baby I lost, I told them my LMP and they really stuck by that even when I told them otherwise.  With this Dr (I switched after my m/c) They listened a bit more and did an early u/s to "date the pregnancy".

If they are really hard up on the whole LMP thing, honestly Iwould give them Your fake LMP based on your O date.  Because if you go for b/w and they they are going by your real LMP they will tell you the numbers are low and same with your first u/s that the baby is a week or so behind etc, causing you nothing but worry.

    My Ovulation Chart
  • I'm the minority!  I based my LMP on 14 days before my O date and that is what I gave my Dr., I also had an early u/s at 6w2d and it was within 1 day of what I thought I was, but the assumed EDD from the pregnancy wheel would have been all messed up if they would have used my real LMP.  I say its ok to do what I did, the EDD wheel method assuming a 28 day cycle and O'ing on cd 14 is no more true to reality than me charting and taking OPK's and actually have a pretty good idea of when conception actually occured.  I think if you are in tune with your body and have the information why not use it to help make the chance of induction less.  I would have a chance to be induced like 5 days early if my Dr. office only let me go to a certain week based on EDD had I not adjusted my date, I really don't want an induction.

I would give your real LMP date and explain the O date thing. A few days difference isn't a huge deal. I don't think I'd like it if my doctor blew off my chart, though - my doc didn't trust my chart with this pregnancy, but I kind of don't blame him since I was charting following a D&C and only had a few temps before O'ing - and he told me that that was the reason, not that he distrusted me or charting in general. KWIM? It sounds like your doc may have been a bit dismissive of you, which is never great.

  • Yes, i would "lie".  I dont see any reason not to to be honest.  The only reason they use the LMP is because they just figured you ovulated on day 14 but if you know when you actually did ovulate, you shoudl adjust it.  I did.  I ovulated on day 12 instead of 14 so i adjusted it 2 days earlier and my baby is still measuring 4 days ahead.  So it would have been measuring 6 days ahead!

  • My LMP put me 3 weeks ahead of where I was...I didn't O until CD35 or something like that. I told my dr my real LMP, but explained that I know I O'd later. She sent me for an ultrasound at what she thought was 9 weeks (I was only 6) and it confirmed my actual date. I would give them the real date, and they'll probably give you an ultrasound to confirm!
