8th grade graduation gift?

My brother invited me to his sons 8th grade graduation. Other family members are going and even though I'm not close to him or his kids I decided to go because I didnt want to be "that" aunt and hopefully can have a better relationship with them.

I planned on getting a card for him, but do I also need to give a gift? Its just 8th grade and it seems weird to me if I bring a gift. I wasn't sure since the last time I went to an 8th grade graduation it was my own and the only people who gave me presents were my parents.

I don't even know what to give if we do, probably money but that still seems weird.. any advice you guys can give would be super appreciated. I feel totally in the dark on this one.

Re: 8th grade graduation gift?

  • what about a gc to a book/music store? I don't know any 8th grader who doesn't enjoy magazines and music.

  • I'd ditto the iTunes gc or if you know that he might be ino video games or something you can get him a gc to Target, Electronics Boutique or Game Stop.
  • Yes get a gift...gift cards or just cash are a safe bet.

  • I actually do remember getting a CD from my aunt for my 8th grade grad.  It was a Live CD, but not the one I liked at the time, so yeah, go with a gift card :)

  • Money or a gc! My son graduated from 8th grade today. At that age, it's all about having spending money.

  • I'm giving my sister's stepson a usb thingey and a gift card.  (he is split between his mom and dad's house and he's getting a new computer from his dad...and he'll need something to take his homework back and forth between the 2 computers).

I typically would give itunes or a gift card to do something.
