this is my friend's status right now on facebook regarding her 5 week old:
Friend is dying inside letting baby cry in his crib; but he has a clean diaper and has been fed and is just fine, he just needs to learn to self soothe.
her other friends have "liked" it and then there's this comment:
It may take a few times but otherwise you will become a slave to his commands....
It makes me so sad. So very, very sad.
Re: sometimes, I hate people....
The fact that they're publicly announcing this is wrong. How hard is it to not say anything about survival and reminding her that HER BABY IS 5 WEEKS OLD???
oh, I did respond:
I highly recommend Happiest Baby on The Block. Research actuallly shows that babies are not capable of self soothing until at LEAST 4 months old, and most not until closer to 6. He needs something, even if it's just to be held.
there is no way I could have kept my mouth shut about that.
If it were me, I'd tell her that 5 weeks is too young to CIO. It is only recommended for older babies! I cannot stand that some people are so "inconvenienced" by their babies. I'm sorry, but I have two kids, and I managed not to have them CIO at that age. I don't even like CIO. Ferber, yes, but not until they are older.
I was thinking the same thing. I may need to send her Hippy's CIO article as well.
I think the "you'll be his slave comment bothered me just as much as her ignoring her crying baby.
