Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Bottle feeding question

My DD is 19 months old.  She still gets 2-3 bottles of milk a day, at bedtime, first thing in the morning, and if she is not at daycare, she may get one right before her nap.

My sister says that at her age, she should have maybe one a day, but that other than that she should be weaned off the bottle and drink strictly from a sippy cup because it can hurt her teeth.

Anyone know if this is right?  She doesn't go back to the pedi till Sept. so I thought I'd ask here.  Thanks.

Re: Bottle feeding question

  • I'm one of those moms who'll call the pediatrician for in-between-appointment questions so I rec calling your baby's doc. However, I will say that everything I read suggests having DCs weaned at 12mos (but no later than 18mos). DD has been weaned for 3wks.

You need to do what is best for your daughter, but IMHO......babies should be off bottles at the latest 15 months and my pedi's office really wants you to be off of them closer to 12 months.

DS was fully off bottles at 13 months. I personally think you are just prolonging the inevitable. Why not put the milk in the sippy cup??? At this point, she really should be drinking out of a cup instead....

  • My pedi said no more bottles after 12 months. We weaned around 10 months.
  • We went to the doc yesterday and she said no bottles after 18 months.

  • Thanks everyone!  Guess it's time to hide the ba-ba's
  • Ours said 15 months.  I have no idea how to do it, especially the night time one.
