I did absolutely no research, and picked one that 'looked good' ... I got a pretty generic Graco set, which gets the job done. Obviously make sure you get one with TWO receivers ... it's a PITA to have to keep moving them around
I have 2 and like both of them. I have the Summer Video monitor ( love this one) and the Sony Baby Call. I use the video monitor in his room since it's upstairs and the Sony is for when he naps in my room in the PNP. We have also used the Sony to take with us when we went on vacation.
We have the Sony Baby Call, the one with two receivers and the high frequency channels. It had the best reviews in Baby Bargains at the time, so that's the one we went with and haven't had any problems. I wouldn't mind getting a video monitor though when we have this baby since both of them will be upstairs.?
We have the Summer video monitor, and I love it. The only thing I would change is splurging a little for the hand-held monitor. It would've been waaay easier to be able to take it from room to room.
I actually still have the monitor up in my bathroom, and I can watch her destroy her room!
I have the Fisher-Price Dual Private Connection Monitor. It works well, although I have to say I really don't use if very much. I can hear my son from pretty much everywhere in my house. I can't use it when we sleep because I will wake up with every grunt (and he grunts all night).
Really think about how often, and what you are going to use it for before you fork over a ton of money for one. I have been around babies my whole life and knew I would not need to check on my lo constantly when he is sleeping.
Because I am a freak we have the angel care monitor. We turned off the motion sensor at about 7 months when she was scooting all over, but up until then we only had two false alarms.
I got that Sony one, too. JBB & I have tested it in various settings & it seems to work just fine. I think it's the one EMT & Penny used because they helped me register.
We have the fisher price sounds and lights and i don't really like it. there's a lot of white noise and i get feedback if i the receiver is too close to her room. i am going to replace the fisher price with the sony one because it's highly rated in baby bargains and i've seen a lot of girls recommend it on here.

I think we have the same one- lights and sounds or something like that. I have no complaints.?
We have a fisher price one, its a hand me down from my sister.
You might also want to check out craigslist if you want one of those video monitors. I have seen a few on there.
