Nap time and standing/cruising

I used to put Liev down awake for naps and he'd fall asleep on his.  No crying, no fussing, etc.  Ever since he started sitting up on his own, then crawling and now standing and cruising, that has become impossible.  I have to rock him to sleep, sometimes it takes several tries.  If I put him down awake, even when he's sleepy, he'll just cruise until he's tried and cry.

Has anyone experienced this?  Did it go back to the pre-standing/cruising habit?

Re: Nap time and standing/cruising

  • I just left him there. He'd cry sometimes in thebeginning for a few minutes, but he'd fall back into old habits again. Even now, he'll usually pop back up and play for a while before he goes to sleep.

If you keep rocking him to sleep then I don't see how it will go back to the way it was...

What is wrong with him cruising in his crib until he's tired?

and yes we experienced the same thing but I just let her sit up or crawl around until she was tired enough to lay her head down.  I also started putting a book in her crib which helped.  She actually fell asleep sitting up a few times and then I would go in and just lay her down.

  • Been there.  Once DD found out that she could stand and cruise in her crib, it takes her quite a bit longer to finally give up, lay down and fall asleep.  Try the CIO method but stay in the room with his so if he drops is pasy, you can give it back to him.  CIO is not as bad as most people think.  DD only cried through the first night.  After that, she would look over at me to make sure I was still there with her and then she would lay back down.  It's just a small bump in the road.GL
  • Just let him be...it's ok for him to have some alone practice time. ?I've always left DS in the crib, because it would take 10x longer if I kept going back in there and laying him back down. ?I only go in there if he's really crying hard and needs me to reassure him.
