Trying to Get Pregnant

Something to think about.

I recently looked into Cord Blood Banking. I wanted to let everyone on here know (if you didn't already) that I have seen quotes from $900 to $1500! I had NO IDEA it would be so much money.

If this is something that's important to you, it's something to start thinking about now and to maybe start saving for.

I think DH and I are going to go the donation route instead, but I just thought I'd mention the cost for those of you that hadn't researched it yet.

(Oh and many insurance companies offer money off. Mine gives a $250.00 discount).

Re: Something to think about.

  • I'll keep this in mind. I had no idea it was that much.

  • Wow. I knew it was expensive but had no idea it was that much! Thank you very much for the heads up :)
  • wow!! That is a lot
  • I would really recommend doing lots of research before making a decision about pursuing cord blood banking.

  • I actually thought it was more. We are doing our research about it.
  • Isn't there a reoccurring fee as well?  (monthly/quarterly/annual)

I have already come to understand this is an expense we can't really take on - but I'm seriously thinking about donating.

  • It can be as high as $2000-2500 at some places. There is a monthly/quarterly/yearly storage fee also. Usually around $30-50 a year. (This is what my OB nurse told me though.)

I was going to do it...but then found out the cost and though maybe I'll just donate it instead. I am still researching our options. We have a little bit to decide.

That's right! I totally forgot about the storage fee! I even saw one as high as $100.00 per year.

  • It comes out to around $4,000 if you pay for it until your child is 21.  After that they (your child) resume the responsibility of paying for it.
