Best places to register?

Hi all! I'm new to the boards and am hoping you can help me.  My husband and I are expecting our first baby 11/27 and are going to register this summer after we find out the sex.  I've been to Babies R Us and Target and like a lot of things at both places.  Are there any other good suggestions out there?  I love Little Urbanites or Posh Baby Boutique in the Pearl district, but is it "ok" to register for clothes?  My MIL says to stick to basic items.

Re: Best places to register?

  • We are doing BRU, Target and Segals for Children.  HTH

If you want to register for clothes, I say go for it! Then you wont end up with a ton of ugly clothes you don't want to put your baby in.

  • We used MyRegistry dot com. If your people are web savvy it is great because you can register for anything you find online at any store. We also registered at Target for our relations that never go online. You will get clothes, even the basics were wrapped in some cute outfit...and a few not so cute outfits. I think we ended up with over 100 newborn size onsies! I returned most of them because they are a pain to get on over baby's head (hint: register for the wrap type that snap on the side).HTH

We registered at BRU for the gear and essentials and Pottery Barn Kids for the decorative/nursery items.  DD's bedding is also from PBK.  DD's carseat and stroller came from Segal's for Children, but we didn't register for those items - our parents asked what we wanted and went and got them there.  In terms of clothing, we did not register for much, only b/c I had been a manager at a children's clothing store for several years and had been stock piling plastic bins full of clothes.  People do like to buy clothes for showers, so if you have strong preferences for certain items/styles, I would register for them so people have an idea of what to get you.

  • You will still get ugly clothes, no matter what!  I personally wouldn't register for clothes at all... the type of people that buy clothes for baby showers, typically want to pick out whatever it is that they want to get you anyway. No matter what you register for, you will still get tons of homemade blankets and random toys and clothes that aren't on your registry.  We only registered for stuff that we really "needed", like baby monitor, diaper garbage can, swing, swaddle me blankets, bottles, baby bathtub, etc.  And we rec'd all of those things.

We reg at Target, BRU, and Segals.  They only things that we ended up buying from Segals was our chair and ottoman, and carseat, because the owner was a complete jerk to me when he messed up our custom chair order.

  • I wouldn't register for clothes - you'll get them anyway. The only clothing we registered for were sleep sacs, a sun hat, and a specific sleeper that I wanted - and we only did that because we needed to add more things to the registry. We received a TON of clothes at our showers.

We used myregistry.com. It worked fairly well.. people could access it and see what we wanted, but they had a difficult time marking items as "purchased." So we ended up with some duplicates, but very few random items. If you want a traditional registry, Iook at BRU and Segal's. I think that Little Urbanites has a registry and non-clothing items. I think Mother Nature in SE also does registries... not sure. FYI - I've been told that Target is a b!tch to work with and to not register there.
