We have a daughter who is 6 and has been wanting to go for so long that we agreed that we would go next May while she is still 6 and this LO is 6 months.
Obviously we will have to go again when this LO is older, maybe around 4 or 5.
That is so funny that you posted this, DH and I were just talking about this last night. We said we would like to wait until they are about 3 to go, but I don't know if I can wait that long. I love Disney!

We were just talking about this last night! We said once they understand characters and stuff. So probably around 1 1/2-2 yrs old.
We have a friend that is not taking her daughter until she is 3 bc she wants it to "be special". I get that, but I also want to get a pass so we don't force the kid to spend hours there and get our money's worth! We live close so a pass would work for us.
Everyone always says "dont take them until they are old enough to remember!" Why! If you are planning to go atleast one more time in their life, why is a trip when they are around 6 months bad!
I was thinking about a 6 month trip as well! I have read that it is very stimulating to a newborn and good to get them used to the atmosphere for future trips!
It's looking like not quite a year. MIL is a huge Disney person and wants to go next summer for her 60th birthday. I don't know how long it will be until we go back though, hopefully when he is big enough to ride some rides!

A stowaway on board!
We took our daughter that is 4 yr.s old a year ago when she was 3. We are going back for our 5 year anniversary to renew our vows on the beach where dh proposed, and my daughter will be around 8 and little baby girl will then be about 3-4 yr.s
My DS has been to Disneyworld 5 times in 5 years, the first when he was 8 months. We were going to take him for his birthday this year (12/31) but we decided that we should wait a while cause the LO would only be 4 months.
I was 11 when I first went. It was great because I was able to stay up late and it was my last year before I became a surly teenager. I probably take my LO maybe around 8 or 9 but not any sooner. It's too far and too expensive for us so we'd only do this trip once. Honestly, I am not much of a Disney fan.
The first time we took DD she was 23 months. ?She completely "got" it. ?I HIGHLY recommend either staying at a villa so you have room for DC to sleep in the room while you have a living room to hang out in (plus a kitchen to keep milk and stuff for the kids). ?Or on the monorail so you can get home quickly for naptime. ?If you have the money, it's completely a great trip with DC.
I can't stand Magic Kingdom, but we will definitely take the kids because we live so close. I think we'll take Rylie for her second birthday...in January, in the middle of the week. There is no way she would wait in the lines right now and I think it would be a miserable time for all of us. By the time she's 2, I'm hoping she can sit still for a little longer and really be able to enjoy the rides.
I'd go right now, and at least once a year, if money were not an issue.
Right now, we are thinking that we will end up taking her for her 5th b-day. (It seems so far away, so maybe her 4th b-day) Obviously, we'll be going again when this little baby is a toddler/preschooler, too.
I am probably going to wait until DS is 5 or 6. I went with a cousin recently & his son was 4 & still scared of the dark. Not too fun at a place with mainly indoor, dark rides.

Depending on how she is and how everything is going, we will take Lilly when she is 2 months old. We are annual pass holders and go all the time...but we always make sure to go at Christmas time..it is kind of tradition...so if we go this year at Christmas (and hopefully we will), she will be 2 months old.

We LOVE Disney - I think DH would take DD right now if he could. Since it would be a major vacation for us, I don't think we would take DD until she is about 5, this baby will be about 3.5. We are thinking if we have any more kids after we will wait till DD is 5 SO going before another baby arrives would be ideal. But I see us going every couple of years when they are older.
My parents have a summer house an hour north so probably sooner rather than later. A year or so probably for the first time.
The first time my parents took me was when I was 4 (so I could remember it) and I do remember parts of the trip. (Ex. we went to a character breakfast and I wouldn't eat because I hated eggs and they told me Minnie wouldn't come see me if I didn't eat. I held out until she walked into the room at which point I jammed eggs down my throat, hoping it wasn't too late). I've been back about every other year since then.
And I don't think the "Wow" factor ever goes away for a kid.

we're going in november. #1 will be 2 and #2 will be 2 months. i'm fully confident that dd will LOVE it, even if we have to rest frequently. i figure baby will just snuggle in her wrap all day
I'm not sure! We live closer to Sesame Place, so I think we'd be likely to do that when the LO is younger, and then a big family trip to DisneyWorld once s/he is old enough to get it (maybe 3 or 4?)
"For a long time there were only your footprints & laughter in our dreams & even from such small things, we knew we could not wait to love you forever."

Since we live about an hour away, I'm sure we won't as long as most people would. We love Disneyland and usually go twice a year, just the two of us! Probably 6 months to a year.
Several of you have mentioned taking LO when they are around 6 months old... I personally wouldn't do it. I don't think it would be very enjoyable for anyone. I have a 6 month old right now and would never think of taking her to Disney (or any other theme park) right now. She's too young to understand what is going on... she tires out really easily... she gets cranky if she doesn't get her nap (those aren't things that are just specific to MY child... they are pretty common for children of all ages, especially so young). But good luck to those of you who do decide to take your kids when they are that young.
We'll probably wait until the kids are around 5 and 6 before going the first time... that's the plan so far right now, we'll see how that works.
we took DS just after he turned 1 and it was perfect--might take this one earlier as we usually get seasons passes and DS will go at least a few times a year
I would love to wait until he/she is 4 or 5 years old, but we only live a couple hours from Disney and my inlaws have a timeshare there. I just hate the crowds and the expense and would prefer to put it off as long as possible, but I know we'll have to go probably sooner than I want to.
Im sure it will depend on LO temperment when it comes time to decide about a vacation. And Im sure it wont be the easiest vacation but I just cant wait to get her introduced to it all. Yes, I am a Disney FREAK!
We live in Orlando, and both DH and I get into the parks for free, so it may be pretty soon that we take LO. That being said, I've seen how hectic it is being at a Disney park with little kids, and we may put it off until he is around 3.
I have family that works for Disney so free tickets are pretty easy to come by. However, I don't think I want to bring my kid there until they're at least 4 maybe closer to 5.
I was 6 when I first visited the Magic Kingdom. It was great because I got to go on almost every ride and I still remember all the fun I had.
DH and I were there last year and there were tons of parents w/little babies and toddlers. They were lugging around diaper bags and carriages and everywhere you went it smelled like poopie diaper. YUCK! We both vowed not to go there with a kid still in diapers who has to be carried around all day. Too much IMO.
Oh god, I knew someone that took her baby at 2 weeks...
I have been thinking of taking our baby when he is a few months old, after some of the immunizaations are over, because it would be cute to go during the week and get pictures with characters (I have a year round pass).
I was given a 'ticket' to go to Disneyland when I was four. I think that school age is a good time. My brother went with me at 2, and every character except Tigger (his favorite) scared him.
We usually go to Disney once a year but we're taking some time away from it because of the LO. We'll probably take them when they are somewhere between 1 1/2 and 2.
I'm not sure! We live closer to Sesame Place, so I think we'd be likely to do that when the LO is younger, and then a big family trip to DisneyWorld once s/he is old enough to get it (maybe 3 or 4?)
This will be our plan too. Probably will wait to see what age any possible future children are when this one is old enough. I just can't see doing Disney with an infant in arms...
My side of the family goes every other year. We just went this Feb, when I had just found out I was pregnant. I cant wait until 2011 when we will go back.
I have a 2 year old niece and this was her second visit, she LOVED it. She knows all the characters and could relate to what was happening. My sister's inlaws are vacation club members so they go every year... every year just does not fit in our budget.
DH and I aren't really into Disney, but if we take our kids, it will be when they are around 5-6 so they will remember it. I don't see the point in going any younger for us. I could give the kid an inexpensive toy and they'd be thrilled for a week at home.

We weren't planning to go but then DH had a conference in Orlando. We took DS at 3 1/2 and he loved it (despite not knowing who most of the characters are).
We are annual passholders...and we usually wait until they are 3 months old, because of all the people, I don't like to have sick babies under 3 mos! But after that, it's fair game. I have been taking both my boys since they were this little and they were fine. They are still going on all the rides they did as infants and more now. They have no problem standing in line, and are'nt afraid of the rides. I personally think it's because they have been riding them since they were practically born. They are used to standing in lines, lol. My older daughters didn't go for the first time until they were 3 & 4. I too thought it would be a better age for them, but seeing my boys and how they have grown up "Disney" I wish I had done the same with my girls. Both of my boys would fall asleep on pirates, so funny. I EBF so it's really not a hassle to take them as babies. I might think twice if I had to deal with formula. And a good portion of the rides, I went straight on with DS in my carrier.

Whenever she's old enough to fully understand and enjoy all that is the Magic Kingdom. Whenever that may be (I'm guessing after 3ish).
Until then, we're just vacationing in Myrtle with the family each summer.
