Alternatives to poly fiberfill?

Google is not my friend today. Any of you ladies know if there are cotton or wool alternatives to the standard polyester fiberfill? Also, I've never worked with wool before, so if wool fill exists can it be machine washed if a baby chews the toy?

I recently received patterns from my grandmother of stuffed animals that she used to make for us when we were kids and would love to start making them for the new generation. I'd just prefer to use more natural materials.

bamboo! i made some fabric balls and filled will bamboo. ?i found it at Joann's, but used the 40% off coupon b/c it's pricey!?

you can get wool roving... my favorite source for that is peacefleece.com. I have made knitted wool toys and filled them with the shaved stuff from my woolies!

I noticed that Michael's had some cotton filling and it wasn't that much more expensive than the poly.?
