Success after IF

apparently I had an abruption.

My regular doctor wasn't on call the day of my c/s and since it was Memorial Day she didn't come in.  The doctor who did the surgery wasn't very good and never really talked to me about it, even though I was desperate to know why we wouldn't try to stop the contractions and do bedrest, rather than just do the c/s.

When looking at my discharge papers I saw that the cause of the surgery was listed as "36w previa, possible abruption, bleeding/contractions".  I was surprised to see abruption listed since it hadn't been mentioned to me at all.  I asked my doc about it at the incision check yesterday but she needed to wait for the placental pathology report to give me the final answer.  She just called and had spoken to the pathologist - apparently I did have a marginal abruption.

At this point it obviously doesn't matter, but I wish I would've been told it was a possibility at the time of surgery.  It would've made the decision to take him so much more clear cut in my mind.  I just had no idea what we were really dealing with.

Re: apparently I had an abruption.

  • That's really awful that the doctor didn't tell you that at the time. ?I hate it when doctors don't give you the whole story. ?

  • How frustrating! I am glad that you found out what happened but it is so ridiculous that they did not tell you this earlier :(
It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

  • Oh geez!!!! I wonder why they didn't tell you??

I never got a chance to congratulate you!!! Your baby is sooo precious!!!!

  • Wow!  That is scary!  I can't believe he didn't tell you!  I would have been upset too.
  • That is frustrating they didn't tell you at the time, although abruptions are often hard to diagnose without seeing the placenta. It's good you know now though, in case you are ever pregnant again. So glad you and Oliver are both safe.

  • wow, they should have told you that.
