3rd Trimester

Scared

Well my due date is getting closer and closer and I am getting scared. I have taken the lamaz class to ease my fears which it did but I still get scared. I am afraid of the unknown or the many things that might go wrong.  I try to relax myself and think of happy thoughts but I always go back to scared and not knowing if I can go through with this or not.

Re: Scared

  • you arent the only one who gets scared. it will all work out in the end tho :)

  • when I feel that way, I just tell myself that billions of women have done it before me and it's only one day of my life. This is my second and though I had an almost perfect delivery, I am still scared.

  • It's okay to be worried/scared!!  There is a certain level of uncertainty, especially during these last few weeks of what could happen during the labor/delivery process.  But try not to focus on the negative.  Being aware of all possibilities won't hurt you and will definitely help you to be prepared.  You just need to keep a positive frame of mind that you will go and address each new development as it comes.  I know this probably doesn't help much, but I don't want you to worry!!
  • I'm a lurking 2nd tri-er who has been there before....just believe that your body will know what to do.  And then listen to it!  It's ok to be scared of the unknown, but you can do it!  :)

  • I understand!  I feel scared too but like a PP said, you just have to rely on the fact that this has been done so many times before you and in all likelihood everything will be fine.  And everytime i get fearful I think of holding my baby girl in my arms because she will be there in the end.  Think of it this way too, people do it more than once, so the reward is so much bigger than the fear.  Good luck to you!
  • I'm 35/35 today, and I'm definitely starting to freak out. I'm actually not so worried about the labour (it'll be what it'll be), I'm just freaked that my whole life will be completely different forever. I will ALWAYS be a mother after this, and everything I do has the potential to affect this innocent little person's life. It is a huge responsibility. Compared to that, labour is not so scary for me lol.

  • I was really scared last time but you forget the scared part when you are in labor...it's the last thing on your mind.

Totally natural - you'd be daft not to be a bit scared of what is coming.  But here's the thing -- it's actually not as bad when you are in it.  You focus and do what you need to.  And should anything begin to happen, there is a team of drs and nurses monitoring you and ready to swoop in to do what needs to be done for your health and the baby's.  I remember being monitored in L&D with just DH in the room, all was casual, having a contraction and suddenly having 3 nurses in my room moving me, hooking me up to oxygen and an IV and paging the dr because the contraction was so long it caused DD's HB to drop.  I hadn't noticed a thing and even though I'd just passed them all chatting at the nurse's station on my way to resume monitoring, they were monitoring everything very closely.  All went well from there.  It works out.
