I wasn't sure that this was going to be a useful item, but it has been the #1 most used product we've used in the 6 days we've been home. If you're a first time parent definitely think about getting an Itzbeen Baby Care Timer. It's the simplest thing in the world but it makes life so so so much easier. Basically it's a timer with 4 buttons. Every time you do something (feed, change, sleep or other) you push the button and the timer starts counting. That way at any given time you can just glance at the thing and know exactly how long it's been since DC ate, you took your pain meds, etc. It's ridiculously simple and seems unnecessary, but we LOVE it. It also helps for parents doing shifts - we hand it off to each other when one goes to bed and there's no question about what needs to be done and when. I plan on passing it on to my friend in a few months when she has her baby and I (hopefully) have a brain again.
It's without a doubt the best shower gift we got and a bargain at $25.
Re: product RAVE for new moms
Agree 100%
I have seen some posts on other boards where they are like "who's so lazy they can't keep track of their own kid?" but having a newborn is like learning a new language, your brain is working in new ways and keeping track of 100 things at a time. ?the timer is the best thing ever, I LOVED mine and buy it for every shower I go to!
E?
That's great!
Question for you: I actually had it on my 2nd registry -- the registry no one used -- so I didn't get it. (Does BRU let you register for it now? That's great too!) In the end, after she was born, I was grateful no one had spent their money on it because we took notes for everything and thus we were able to go back and records for the full day, and for previous days too. It seems the itzbeen told you how long it'd been since the very last time something happened only. Is that correct? I'm just not sure that would have been as helpul to me as taking notes where I could see when and how much I pumped that day, when and how much she ate that day, how many minutes she tried latching, and how many times she peed and pooped. Knowing how long it had been since the time prior wasn't really the issue since they were all pretty much constant things, and we just did them as much as we could, you know? Sorry for the weird question -- to hear someone found it useful is reassuring, as it seemed like a nifty little gadget!

ditto pp- i was very into the idea of this but was under the impression it doesnt have a memory, therefore you can't look at patterns or # of times baby ate (or how much if using a bottle), wet diaper vs dirty, etc, so I think I'd feel like I needed to write things down anyway?
those who use it, do you still write things down??
You're right - all it is is a timer. It doesn't do any tracking. We're taking notes too (what time, how much, what kind of diaper, etc.) and like you I couldn't live without them. But that's not really what the Itzbeen is for. With your notes you'd see that he ate at 6:35 and it's 9:15 now. You could obviously figure out that it's been 2 hours, 40 minutes since he last ate. But you'd have to have the brain power to do the figuring. With the timer all you do is look at it and it tells you. Like I said, it seems like it would be useless (especially for someone like you and me who takes diligent notes) but it's simplicity is it's beauty.
And nope - BRU doesn't have it (or didn't when I registered). But I had an Amazon.com registry too.

I love this and still use it! Who knows when I'll stop using it. It's been a lifesaver. I don't write anything down though. The timer is always with me and it helps so much. I never have to look at a clock. It helps for sitters to know and DH can look at it if I go out or DS is fussy and DH wants to know a possible reason (hungry, needs changed, etc).
I registered for it and BRU and got it at my shower.
