IVF: Estrogen Priming Protocol?

Anyone out there have experience with this protocol? I would love to hear your experience....meds, stimming time, follie size etc. TIA

I am doing this right now. I started taking Estrace every night a week after AF. I took estrace for 5 days and then stopped and am now doing my stims (225 IU of Gonal F, 225 IU of Menopur, 2 clomid, and 2 dexamethasone) every night. I have my first follie check tomorrow. I am really nervous because I have now done two other IVF's and have never been to an ER. Tomorrow I stop clomid and re-start estrace. Hoping for an ER early next week.

PS. I did start taking DHEA (75mg/day) and 7 wheat grass pills every day for the last 8-9 months and my AMH went from .2 to 1.4...my RE was amazed. Not sure if your issue is FSH and AMH but those seemed to do wonders for me.

I will definitely check your blog for updates. If you dont mind my asking, why didnt you make it to ER before? I dont believe I have either of those problems...I have no clue why my RE chose this protocol over a different one. I trust him...I am just curious.

I am on menopur, bravel, lupron & estrace suppositories. I also had 2 estradiol IM shots in the week prior to starting stims. Did you have those? My next check in Thurs, which will be day 8 of stims.

I didn't make it to an ER because I wasn't producing enough E2 to kep the follies growing so we canceled both cycles prior to this. This is a great protocol and I hope to have success. I had to beg my RE to do this because they've never done it before. I got a new nurse from a differnt clinic who had experience with this and wanted to try it with me so I'm like their guinea pig...that's OK with me if it works.

Tonight is day 5 of stims for me. I am not doing any Lupron because I think I am too surpressed as it is. I didn't have to do any IM shots either, just the HSG if we decide to proceed with an ER.

Good Luck to you...when do you anticipate an ER?

Oh wow. That is very exciting for you. I hope this does the trick for you! My nurse said this protocol usually takes the full 12-14 days to stim. They are estimating my ER date between 6/9-6/11.

How are your E2 levels doing so far? I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Let me know how you are doing after your check.

Hi!

I did an estrogen priming antagonist protocol. My RE did this with my first and 2nd IVF. I don't know why he did this over others either, but I believe that he does this with all his patients at first because I had gone to another RE who was going to do a long lupron w/ bcp with me and last minute had to change to the new RE. At the new REs office they said that if I had already ordered my meds they can work with that but usually the do the estrogen priming.

Anyway! I took estrace pills orally for 15 days, then also started prometrium for 10 days. After that I didn't take anything for 3 days. I started Follistim the 4th day. (during this time I had an u/s). I did follistim for 10 days, the 6th day I also did Ganirelix. I started on 225 units of Follistim but it got reduced to 150 then 75. I had 28 eggs retrieved this time and 24 fertilized, but ended up with 9 to freeze.

Note- with my first IVF the time line was the same, but I started on 350 units of Follistim and slowly was reduced. I also was on low dose HCG. This time I they retrieved 24 eggs. I think 20 fertilized. We had 12 to freeze.

IVF #1 didn't work, the dr didn't know why. Also my estrogen was very high with my first IVF, it was around 3300. 2nd IVF (that worked) it was 4400. So strange considering the dr thought my first IVF didn't work bc all the estrogen didn't make my uterus "friendly" enough. The 2nd IVF, we had less meds, more eggs retrieved, and higher E2 leves, but it worked, So I don't know!!!!

My RE hasn't put a name on it but I believe that's what I'm doing. Last cycle I started on ethinyl estradiol pills (once a day, then increased to twice a day), then provera to bring on AF. After AF I went down to every other day on the estrogen pills and started a low dose of stims on Day 5 (75 IU menopur). After 3 days of stims they upped my dose to 150 IU. I'll add in Cetrocide when I get closer to ER - so I believe that makes this an antagonist protocol as well.?

I'm praying that I have some response to this protocol, since I'm high FSH and DOR (but not AMA).
