DS is officially too big for the pack n' play which he always slept in when we travel. He sleeps in his crib still and I honestly don't think a mattress on the floor, etc will work for him - he won't get it. Plus, he has never once co-slept with us, so sleeping in our bed is totally not an option (the few times we have tried he thought it was party time).
Those peapod tent things are a possibility, but they seem small - DS is 36 inches and moves all over his crib at night....I worry he will feel way too enclosed We are travelling next month and I am starting to get worried. We are going to try and rent a crib, but it is a small town and I don't know if that is a possibility... any thoughts?
Re: What does your toddler sleep in when you travel?
Sorry, I am no help because Kyle was 2 yrs in January and we still use a pack n play when we travel. We plan to use one again in Hawaii this September if he doesn't want to sleep on the fold-out couch with Eric.
Have SO much fun on your trip!

We bought a peapod and DD HATED it. Totally want bat *** crazy when we tried to get her to sleep in it. She's also 36" and does not fit comfortably in a PNP. She does not sleep well with us either, always wants to party and one of us (usually me) ends up injured.
We're going to visit my grandmother in a couple weeks and staying in a hotel. I'm bringing the PNP and hoping for the best. She sleeps all curled up in her crib, so she can curl up in the PNP too, right?
We do rent a crib when we go on our beach vacation (www.babysaway.com), but I can't find a place that has them in my grandmother's town.
We have this from walmart ship to store, DD loves it and it folds up small....
Regalo My Cot Portable Travel Bed
I'm not sure I'm much help. DD#2 is still in the pnp. Does your DS really not fit anymore or are you worried he'll crawl out. DD loves to sleep lengthwise in her crib and sometimes in the pnp. She can't fit stretched out but she sleeps curled up anyway so it's no big deal.
FWIW, DD#1 sleeps in a sleeping bag on the floor when we travel or in a regular bed if we're in a hotel. She does sleep in a toddler bed at home, but does fine in a regular bed or in her sleeping bag away. Can you get your DS a sleeping bag that he would love that he might be more likely to stay in? You could put it on a regular bed or a mattress on the floor or just on the floor itself.
I think he really does not fit - the last time we used it was the beginning of March and the first 2 nights he kept waking up every time he rolled and hit the sides... He can definitely get out, but that isn't what I am worried about - he tends to stay put in things.
Maybe I will bring the pack n' play and pray
hey devonpow.?
?I always rent a crib. hopefully they will have that rental service where you're going.?
have a fun trip!?
ds is still in his crib (with one side down). in general, we used a rented crib or pnp. i went out a bought a raised blow-up twin bed. lol, i might have to push a dresser up against it. not sure how I'll prevent him from rolling out.
we have the same issue: he does not sleep with us -- its partytime for him.
Those portable blow-up bedrails are ok for a while.
But really you've ruled yourslef out of any option other than a hired crib haven't you. You won't cosleep, you won't try a mattress on the floor, you won't try a bed.
What did you expect us to say? That there's a way to shrink him back to infant size again?
I'd cosleep. We don't cosleep anymore at home but we always do for travel and it works fine. Ususally he sleeps iwth DH and I have the other bed, we get a room with 2 QS or doubles. I seriously don't think that just because we coslept until about 10 months that makes a difference, DS wouldn't remember that in the slightest now he's past 3. To him its just something you do when you travel.
I think you need to give the kid more credit for adaptability.
This, except we also got the sheet that fits it & we don't use a sleeping bag. We got it from One Step Ahead.
