My dd is not going to give up her bottle by 12 months. It is just flat out not going to happen, she's not ready, and I am not going to force her. I introduced the sippy cup at 5 months, but have not been at all consistent until the last month, but she really doesn't like them. She will drink out of a regular cup, but it of course goes everywhere!
So my question is, is your over 12 month old still drinking from the bottle instead of from a cup?
Thanks!
Re: Does your dc still take a bottle?
Yep. As of right now, DS refuses to take milk out of his straw sippy - just water. I'm not freaking out about it - as long as he's weaned off the bottle by 15 months, we'll be okay. I haven't really gotten too strict about it yet, either.
DS is almost 16 months and still takes milk in bottles. (usually 2, sometimes 3) I really don't care. (He drinks water from his sippy cup.) Our pedi said it was really a matter of convenience for parents than anything else, and especially if they do not have any eaar problems, there is no real rush yet. She said if I don't mind, it is not a big deal. She said by 18 months they should be down to one at night if possible. Don't worry!
eta: We weaned from BFing in March so taking this away was not on the top of my list. Probably some time this summer, I guess...
I am glad I am not the only one! DS will take a sippy for like a sec and than just throws it down! I lke your thinking as long as it is gone by 15 months! I still have 3 months to work on it!
DS1 was off the bottle at one year. I just am not as strict with DS2 since I SAH. I don't know if that really makes a difference, but to me it does.
My DD takes both. We plan on weaning her by 15 months. One sippy you may want to try (it's DD's favorite- and we've tried them all) is the Gerber Nuk learner cup. DD barely puts it down. We just give her water in it and she loves it. They have them at Wal-Mart.
Nuk Learner Cup.DS takes both - mainly 2-3 bottles a day (including his night time 5AM bottle). I've tried to be more strict but sometimes that's all he wants and it quiets him down. ::hangs head in lazy shame::
I was hoping he'd be off them by the time DD gets here, so I'm not so sure...
I mean TRY the nuk, not tried. LOL.
This. DD absolutely refused to drink milk out of a cup, especially her morning bottle. We didn't stress about it, since really, why take something away from them that they so clearly enjoy? Anyhow, we started exclusively offering straw cups of milk around 18.5 months, and at that point she didn't complain -- so yes, we are finally completely done with bottles!
This is dd too. She will suck on it trying to get the fluid out but can't seem to get the hang of putting her head back so the fluid hits the sippy part. I decided she might be able to do a straw but she doesn't want anything to do with that either
We have yet to find a sippy cup that DS will take anything out of. So far we've tried the Dr. Browns, Nuby, Nuk and Avent and he chews on the bottom and then throws it to the ground. I'm planning on picking up a straw cup tomorrow to see if this works better. I actually tried letting him drink from a cup with no cover, but he was freak out by the water coming out so fast.
Were trying to get rid of the bottle, but there are times that DS just won't drink out of a cup/sippy. So I give him a bottle. Usually only before bed and maybe in the morning. Depends on his mood.
