Boy name dilemma

Choosing a girl name for my first baby was a cinch. Choosing a boy name for this coming child is almost impossible. What do you think of the following two names?

John McKay (We are considering throwing this out because everyone might think of the USC coach which is purely coincidental)

Zeke McKay (does this sound too "hayseed"?) My husband doesn't want to use the full name Ezekiel because it is too "old testament" for his taste.

I love the name John. Ezekiel is nice, but I don't like Zeke. It doesn't seem like a stand alone name.

John McKay makes me think John McCain (and I have no idea who the USC coach is that you speak of).

I don't think Zeke McKay really goes well, but I do like the name Zeke. We considered Ezekiel with a NN of Zeke for our son but in the end didn't choose it.

I don't like Zeke at all. I could see the kids saying, "Zeke the geek". Kids are mean!?

John is a classic that's always in style. I don't know anything about football so I have no idea who John McKay is. ?

I like John better. I don't know who John McKay is so that would never cross my mind. I might be the only one though.

Zeke is nms. If it were a nn for Ezekiel, it would be ok, but not all on its own.

I also first thought John McCain. Zeke as a formal first name just doesn't work well. I do like Ezekiel though.

I thought the same thing about John McKay sounding like John McCain. I don't like the name Zeke though.

I agree with all who thought John McCain when reading John McKay. I don't like Zeke. So if I had to choose between the two it would be John.

I like Zeke better (although I think John is fine too.) But I don't think Zeke is good as a stand alone. Can't you name him Ezekial just for job apps and such and always call him Zeke?

John McKay sounds too much like John McCain for my taste. It would be a deal killer for me (although that depends on which way you lean, I'd guess!).

Zeke McKay doesn't really do it for me either. I just don't feel like the 2 names go together.

Don't like zeke.

Here's my weird thing about John - I don't like John on it's own. But I like Jonathan w/ the nn Jon (as my DH is). Don't ask me why- but John is just too plain and boring to me. Jonathan adds a little more to it.

Also thought John McCain, also no idea who John McKay is...not liking Zeke either, I still think it sounds biblical so if you're husband's not too into that... What about Josh instead of John, or if you're stuck on it use Jack (which is another version of John)?

John McKay makes me think of John McCain which, I guess, isn't a bad thing if he is one of your heroes or someone you look up to. In general, though, I'm not a big fan of John.

Ezekiel "Zeke" McKay is darling. I'm not a huge fan of naming a kid something just to use a nickname, but in this case I'd be pestering my husband to go for Ezekiel and call him Zeke. So cute!
