Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone else not done any pro pics?

Most days, I'm fine with this. I'm very laid back about a lot of things, but I worry that I'm too laid back about some (like, maybe "lazy" would be a better word). We haven't done a single professional pic session with dd, and she's almost 7 and a half mos. old. I'm having a guilty/regretting it moment.

Tell me that I'm not the only one who hasn't done this?

Re: Anyone else not done any pro pics?

  • I would totally be regretting that if I were in your position!

We got pro pics at 3 and 6 months. I did his 9 month pics and will probably do his 1 year pics as well.?

    I like privacy. A lot.

  • I haven't either.  I think a lot of pro pics look cheesy and are overpriced.

I would like a nice family portrait though, so we may get that done.

  • DD is 11 months old & I still haven't had anything beyond having the one pic with Santa at Christmas done (I don't even count that as a "real" pro pic). You aren't the only one, I promise.
  • We haven't had any done yet and DD is just few days shy of 7 months.  I don't regret it, we have literally about 1000 pictures of her.  We will have professional ones done soon.

Thank you for making me feel better. :) And, the few pics I have seen that you have taken are gorgeous. That's part of why I haven't done it (possible laziness aside) - we have tons and tons of great pics of dd from our camera, so why spend a ton of money? That being said, I want to do it soon, and I agree with the family portrait. :)

  • Thank you to the rest of you, too. :) I was busy writing a reply when your posts came in ;)

That's what I was looking for - others who don't see it as the end of the world :)

Exactly.  Your siggy pic is gorgeous, for example.  Personally, I think snapshots that show your child's true personality are what you will really treasure years from now.  Pro pics are nice to have, but it's not the end of the world if you don't have them.

Exactly what Iris said, although I would just have one of my friends take a family photo for us, as she is excellent with a camera.

I take my own photos of her, and I am completely satisfied with them. I think it's kind of pointless to pay for something when it is overpriced and I can just do it myself.?

  • We just went to Target last week and had her first pro pics done.  My mom insisted (she was visiting).  I told them I wanted them very simple, so they just used a plain white backdrop.  I had a coupon for a free 8x10 and each sheet was 3.99.  I only bought 4 sheets, plus my free picture.  I considered this a practice session for her 1 years pics :)  I thought they were very natural looking, and the photog really captured my crazy girl.  Loved it!

  • We had them done at 1 months. Right now I am really learning to use my dslr to take pics of dd. I am in contact with a lot of professional lifestyle photographers who do gorgeous work. If I could afford it, I would hire one of them in an instant! Check out Amy Ro photography for instance or Stephanie Fisher at sfisherphotography.com. I do not like instant places like Target, BRU, or Sears. I can take better photos than that myself.
  • DS is 9 months & we haven't & aren't planning on it either. We do want a nice family portrait w/the 4 of us at some point though-but we'll probably have my dad take the pic.

This. I would and will never go to a place like this to have pictures taken. They scream cheesy in my opinion. I have hired a professional photographer to take family pictures twice so far at the park and beach. That I will do again.

  • I'm addicted to pro pics. We've done them 6 times with a 7th coming up in 2 weeks. I need to learn how to use my thousand dollar camera before my DH kills me.

The ones in 2 weeks are my last until this baby is born. DH is going to do my maternity shots himself :) When the baby is born we're hiring someone to come out to the house.

  • Thanks, ladies! I think I'll definitely do a little research before getting some. I appreciate the feedback and advice! :)

Very, very true, and well said!! Thanks!! :)

  • I haven't...I sort of like my own photos better than some of the pro photo places.  I did happen to find a couple of absolutely amazing child photographers in my area...so we might do family pics when he turns 1.

  • I haven't done them either.  I take tons of photos with my digital though.  I am thinking about getting some 1 year ones done, or maybe something for this coming X-mas.  We will see.

  • I'm crazy about pictures so I'd be going nuts if I were you.  On the other hand, I'm sure you have some pretty wonderful pictures of you DC and you'll get pro pics taken when you get around too it :)  Not to mention that they cost a small fortune!

  • We've done them once when she was 6 weeks old. I liked them, but wasn't overly impressed.  I dont really love the places like JCPenny, Sears, etc but thats where we went. We really can't afford to get a pro photographer all the time and buy all those pictures.

I decided to invest t he money in a good camera and start learning how to take better pictures.  I almost thought about getting 1 year pics taken somewhere, but I did them myself.  I LOVE how they turned out and have gotten tons of compliments. They are exactly what I wanted, and I have the digital files and can print whenever for cheap!
