Finding a pediatrician who will vaccinate on a alternate schedule?

I think we want to vaccinate with Dr. Sears alternate schedule.  We've met with several pediatricians, but none seem too keen on the idea.  I really like some of the ones we've met with, but just don't know if they will cooperate.  I've looked on Sears website and there are only two doctors in my state that are listed on it.  Anyone else having this problem?

  • Our pediatrician is really great about vaccines, even with our 5 year old. She pretty much does what we prefer, and since he is waiting to start kindergarten, she is spacing his out a lot. She is a holistic and traditional doctor so she does both, if natural remedies and diet alterations don't work, she uses traditional medicine so I guess you could ask around for a dr. like that, they may be more likey to alter the vaccine sched.

  • The one we pick recommends following the AMA or whoever's guidelines, and they didn't seem keen on doing Dr. Sear's, but they will if that's what we ask. They don't have a policy that says we can't modify the schedule.

We haven't made the decision yet personally, but I like the Dr.'s there enough to know I might have to answer a lot of questions about that decision and I'm fine with that.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I had to interview a couple pediatricians before I found one that agreed to an alternative schedule. ?My friend that lives in a small town had a hard time finding a Dr that would agree and settled on going to a Dr that doesn't fully agree with her, but is allowing her to follow an alternative schedule (with just a little trying to convince her to vaccinate at every appt). ?Do you think any of the Dr's that you met with would let you do it even if they don't fully agree?
  • We went to an open house with our pediatrician, who seemed very receptive to the idea.  She was clearly a proponent of the AAP schedule, but seemed more than willing to cooperate with a parent's wish to use an alternative schedule.  As long as they're willing to do it, does it matter if they're "keen" on it or not?
  • I recently switched pedis and both of them were fine with my alternate schedule.  I'm not doing Dr. Sears, but they all took the attitude of whatever I wanted was fine with them.
  • My state wasn't even listed with Dr Sears.  I'm going to ask a few different peds before I decide.

  • We are interviewing another tomorrow, so we'll see what they say.

  • Just remember that you are the consumer you are the parent.  You can do whatever you want to do about vaccines, it's not their decision to make.  I just told my dr, I made it clear I've done my research and I'm not wishy washy.  He does what I tell him to do.

  • I asked for recs on my "home" board and went from there.  I think I've found a couple who will agree but I have yet to meet with them.  Good luck.
