do you have to have one this time around?
will you try to deliver vaginally if you can or opt for a c-section?
why or why not-
I had a scheduled c-sec. with Alek and if possible will try to avoid another one. Why: Because I freaked myself out about all the things I hated about having it the first time, and If I can I think Id like to have that experience also.
Re: C-section the first time~
I went back and forth on this.
I was offered VBAC and told that the spacing wasn't a concern.
I ended up going with the scheduled section for #2 also when Jace's head started measuring big.
My first section was due to IUGR, a fear that Dylan wouldn't tolerate labor, and his 98th %ile head combined with my "very small pelvic structure" (words of my peri).
My mother had awful tears with both her babies and begged me to do the section so.... ?I did!
GL with your decisions!
FWIW - I haven't regretted never going thru labor!?
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
My dr does do VBAC's, but I chose another c-sec.
I thought my c-sec was great. Pain free, fast, and easy. The recovery was a little rough at first, but overall I thought it was okay.
I figure with the risks involved, plus the chance of laboring and still needing a c-sec, plus (okay, this is the vain one) I figure since I've already have the tummy scar, why mess up "down there" too. We're also going to get my only remaining tube tied during it since this is our last and I cannot take BC.
I must say that I am not one of those women that feels the need to deliver vaginally. My DS was breech so my c-sec so I did not have a choice, but I was totally okay with it when they told me that it was needed.
I was going to try for a VBAC the second time.
I decided at the last minute to go with the scheduled c-section, good thing, apparently my ute was SO thin it would have ruptured had I VBACed. They can't tell that until they go in though. I was a good VBAC candidate too.
I will have a c-section with #3.
I will have another. The hospital I will deliver at does not allow VBACs. I am not sure I would have tried for one. I would as crazy as it sounds like to expierence labor this time around though.
My doctors gave me the whole lecture on how "Your pelvis is too narrow to deliver vaginally. Since this baby is bigger than your last one and you weren't able to dilate fully with your last one, you will not likely be able to deliver this one vaginally either and will likely need an emergency c-section". They were WRONG. I did schedule another c-section at their prompting but my body had its own plans, and I went into labor the morning of the c-section. By the time I got to the hospital, they thought I was checking in for my c-section, but when they checked me I was 6 cm already! I decided to wing it and go for the VBAC. It turned out fine. I did have the 3rd degree tears, and he needed forceps, but it was only for like 10 seconds and he was out. If I had another c-section I wouldn't have even contemplated having another, but now I'm considering having a 3rd baby.
I was super paranoid about having a repeat c-section. My anesthesia didn't work last time, and I had to go under general anesthesia. I was making myself sick with worry this time because I thought "What if my anesthesia wears off in the middle of the c-section?" and other horrid thoughts. I thank God that I went into labor so I didn't have to go through with the c-section again.
I have to also say that subsequent labors and deliveries are completely different than 1st births. My first took 18 hours, and I only got to 7 cm before they did my emergency c-section. This time, I got to 10 cm in 4 hours of labor.
I am trying for a VBAC. DS was breech so there were no delivery issues so I'd like to give it a whirl.
I had to have a c with #1 and will have to with #2 as well. I am not able to give birth vaginally at all. My pelvic bone is completely flat and the baby cannot even enter the birth canal. I got a second opinion after having #1 and was told the same thing - absolutely not possible for me to deliver vaginally.
But I was and am totally cool with a c. I feared labor and vaginal delivery so the c was actually a welcome relief for me.
I'll be going for VBAC! I didn't have any problems with my recovery, but the whole surgery was horrible, and having to "earn" my baby back was obnoxious. They don't do that to vaginal birth moms.
I'm hopeful, and my doc is optimistic.
What did you have to do to "earn" your baby back??? I have had 4 c-sections, going for #5 and aside from the one jerk-off nurse I encountered after DD#2 was born, I have had immediate access to all of them and didn't have to earn crap. AS I figure, I already earned them after being pregnant for 9 months!
In response to the original question, I have always done the scheduled c-section after my first (emergency c-section). I never felt right about the VBAC. Was too worried about rupturing. I labored with DD#1 for 3 freaking days with severe contractions. The hospital only took me on the second trip in cause they saw my contractions and knew i had been like that 3 days ago with a whole 2 cm progression. It has never bothered me that I didn't finish my vaginal delivery, cause I know I could've done it.The c-sections are no biggies for me, I recover quite well.
My OB does vbac's and is willing to let me attempt a vbac. I'm going to plan for a vbac & prepare for a csec.
I have 3 or 4 fibroids that my ob believes might hinder my uterus's ability to contract strong enough.
We'll see how it goes. Hopefully the fibroids don't grow.
