My twins were 3. They share a room so I was waiting as long as possible to move them to toddler beds. We did have a hard time keeping them in bed, but now we have a sticker chart and that helps alot.
DD was 2.5 and she did fine in the crib and we didn't need to move her, I just wanted her to be in her new room before the baby comes and she thinks he is taking her room.
She loves her new bed and we have only had a couple of problems. The other night, I woke up to her crying at the bottom of the stairs, we all sleep upstairs? Other than that, she loves it.
A few weeks before he turned two, we bought him a race car bed. We left his crib up and just put the mattress from it into the toddler bed. He LOVES his bed... climbed in there at night and I told him "you stay IN your bed. Do not get out." And he never did! It worked great from night one!
We decided to move him because we had the bed, and wanting to see how well he would transition. In case it was a long ordeal.
We just moved my 3.5 yr old to a twin bed and my 2 yr old to a toddler bed(the one my older son was in). Both have been great with their new beds.
My 2 yr old was climbing in and out of the crib, along with the 3.5 yr old during the day to play. And it was getting cramped for my 3.5 yr old in the toddler bed anyway. It just seemed like the right time to move them up.
1. 2yrs 6mos to crib/daybed, 2yrs 10mos to twin bed
2. She started to climb out of her crib so we took the front piece off to avoid falls/injuries.
3. The transition to the crib/daybed set up was cake. She would still lay in bed an call for us when she woke up even though she was able to just climb right off. The move to the twin bed was a little bigger of a change for her. I think it was just "new" and required us to lay in there with her a few nights while she fell asleep until she got used to the change. All is great now though!
1. A couple of months after she turned 2 2. She was not sleeping well in the crib anymore. Naps and bedtime were already a nightmare. 3. We moved her in January. We are still working on it, but it is a LOT easier now than it was in the beginning.
She was doing fine, but I thought it was time and I wanted to get rid of the extra crib and get it back to SIL. She didn't even get out for six months, she would just call for us. Now we have a gate at her door since we are downstairs and she is upstairs.
She was great right from the beginning.
We plan to move Brendan into his bed right around his second birthday.
1) How old were they? DD#1 was 19 months. DD#2 will be closer to 20 months but around then.
2) What precipitated the move--behavior issues, trying to climb out, not sleeping well? We moved DD#1 b/c DD#2 was on her way. We wanted her moved early enough that she didn't feel like DD#2 was taking "her" crib. We figured we'd try before DD#2 got here and then try again later since DD#2 was sleeping in with us in the pnp for the first few months anyway. DD#1 loved her bed and we were good.
3) How did it go?DD#1 loved her bed and she was great. We did put a gate across her door. After the first week or so, she did try to get out of bed and for a while she slept on the floor just because she loved her princess sleeping bag, but we bought her princess bedding and she was back in her bed no problem. I say that, but she's currently sound asleep on the floor right now for nap. I don't much care as long as she's happy and preferably sleeping. Anyway, it was a pretty easy transition.
DD#2 really wants a bed already. She wants everything her sister has. We are going to move the girls into a "big girl room" probably with bunk beds after Christmas or at least after Thanksgiving. We have a lot of OOT family and giving the girls their big girl room means giving up our guest room. If DD#1 isn't ready for the top bunk (which we're still deciding on), DD#2 will take DD#1's toddler bed but we'll move it into the big girl room and DD#1 will take the lower bunk. We'll see how they do and what they want as it gets closer. I've found the set I think I want, but we're still kinda looking...
For naps: dd1 moved to a full sized bed with bedrails at 15 months, otherwise it was too hard to get her to lay down. I would lay with her for about 10-15 minutes and then get up while she slept. For bedtime: she asked to move to her big girl bed at 27 months. She has never climbed out of her bed. Now when she wakes up in the morning, as long as it is after 7:00, she comes out of her room by herself. Before she could tell time she would call me in the morning and ask if it was, "wake up time yet". She has never once gotten out at night.
Dd2 is still in her crib for naps and seems quite happy there. I have no immediate plans to move her to a big girl bed.
1. DD was 24 months to a toddler bed and 25 months to full sized bed.
2. She was potty training and you could tell she was not comfortable anymore and she liked to lay in our bed.
3. Toddler bed was great, it really wasn't much different from her crib. The full size bed has also been great. We just never let on that climbing out was even an option, she has never tried. We were very lucky.
3. The first few nights/days were heII, she fell asleep on a the floor a lot. We had to put a gate up, she would fall asleep right by the gate. There was a lot of crying. She played in her room very late and didn't nap for a few days so we were all miserable. After a while she adjusted. Now she plays for a while and when she's tired to lays in her bed and goes to sleep and I am fine with that.
Re: Poll: When did you move DC to a big bed?
1) How old were they? Almost 3.
2) What precipitated the move--behavior issues, trying to climb out, not sleeping well? Climbing in and out of bed.
3) How did it go? Transition to toddler bed was great, it wasnt' until he was in a full-size bed that he began getting out of bed a lot.DD was 2.5 and she did fine in the crib and we didn't need to move her, I just wanted her to be in her new room before the baby comes and she thinks he is taking her room.

About 18 months when we converted crib to toddler bed.
She was climbing out.
The first couple of nights were really rough, but by the 3rd or 4th night she was fine.
We are converting to a full size bed at the end of next month...so, we'll see how that goes.
A few weeks before he turned two, we bought him a race car bed. We left his crib up and just put the mattress from it into the toddler bed. He LOVES his bed... climbed in there at night and I told him "you stay IN your bed. Do not get out." And he never did! It worked great from night one!

We moved Maura when she was 2.

1) DD moved less than a month after her 2nd birthday
2) We were expecting DS and needed the crib
3) Very, very well. We never had any issues.

I think sometimes you just know when it is time.

1. It was about a month and a half ago (2 1/2)
2. Climbed out of the crib.
3. The first few nights/days were heII, she fell asleep on a the floor a lot. We had to put a gate up, she would fall asleep right by the gate. There was a lot of crying. 1) 25 mo.
2) Moved at 23 mo and she slept in a PNP until we got our house.
3) It took about a year to keep her in bed.
1. 20 months.
2. Getting ready to have a baby, plus I just thought he was getting a bit big for it (figuring out how to get out and such)
3. Went fine! No problems!
