Success after IF

xp: rare AW of our teenager (long)

I rarely talk about our 14 yr old - Austin - online at his request. ?He's mortified that I post pictures of the younger boys and totally flipped out when I had our family photo up around Christmas. ?Understandable. He's DH's son from a previous marriage but I met him when he was 5 and have been honored to be a part of a wonderful parenting process that includes all 4 of his parents. ?He's at our house 50% of the time (even though DH has full legal custody)?Yesterday Austin Graduated from Middle School. They call it "continuation."?

This was one of those rare moments as a parent where you get to pause and reflect on just how much your teenager has grown over the past couple of years.?

We are beyond proud of the amazing young man Austin is becoming. He has worked hard at a very difficult school and is doing very very well. But more than that.... he's a true joy to be around. At an age where so many parents lament their moody teenagers we are blessed with a young man with an awesome sense of humor, a true dedication to his studies, and an outstanding amount of patience in dealing with 2 younger brothers who think he hung the moon and constantly challenge that privacy that so many teenagers crave.?

When I think of Austin I think of that amazing smile. We're lucky to see so much of it during an age where so many other parents are flooded with eye rolls and attitude.?

In only a few short years he'll be driving. A part of me is thrilled at all of the adventure that lies ahead of him as he continues to grow and become more independent.?

The other part of me wants to freeze time.?

I will always cherish this time in his life. He's such a blessing.?

Thanks for letting me ramble (if you got this far...)There are pics of him looking all handsome in his suit on our family website if you'd like to see!Shell?
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • What a great smile - and he looks so handsome and grown up in his suit!  Congrats on his "continuation", and to you and your DH for raising such a great kid!
  • That totally made me cry.  I met my stepdad when I was 4 years old.  I am so grateful for him and other stepparents that treat their stepkids as if they were their own.  :)  And he looks so handsome in his suit!
