Glucose Tolerance Test Question

I don't go in until 11:50 tomorrow, and I won't be getting the drink ahead of time. What do y'all think is safe to eat for breakfast so I don't throw off the test? I know I'm supposed to go low-carb, but do I have to be completely no carb? What did you eat for breakfast and still pass?

I had a bowl of Crispix and a cup of coffee. My test was after lunch and I just ate a chicken caesar salad and a cup of soup.

My docs just said no donuts and I'd be fine. They wanted a 'real-life' representation of my levels.

(Oh, and I asked my friend about the CD workshop and she no longer does them. Boo! Sorry!)

With DS #1, I had yogurt and this time I had cottage cheese.
  • I would eat as you normally do just don't OVER do it.  I ate a piece of toast with butter and jelly and one egg.

  • I had to fast for the test during my first pregnancy, but with my second pregnancy (and different doctors, too), I ate eggs and toast with just a small amount of jelly.

  • I couldn't eat anything beforehand with either of my pregnancies...

  • i had to fast for my test. even with fasting my glucose levels were high and i had to go back for the three hour test later that week (had to fast for that one as well - all was well).
  • I think I had a bowl of honey nut cherrios and milk before my 1 hour test.

  • My Dr said to stay away from cereal.  I had a hard boiled egg.
  • I had to fast before mine- but it was also 1st thing in the morning.  Anyway, I don't think you should do anything differently than you normally do.  It wouldn't be wise to "trick" the test... not for something so important.  The point is to determine how your body TRULY reacts to what you eat everyday.  This is coming from someone who failed the first test, passed the second, and was still diagnosed w/ GD later on due to high glucose readings.  If you have it, you need to know so that you can manage it.  It's really not that big of a deal though.

  • Oddly enough, I've been begging every doc I've seen for the last 5 years to do a GTT on me b/c I get extremely sleepy after eating. When I worked on an ambulance I tested myself and found that my sugar actually dropped after eating, so I'm kinda curious as to what we might find. Hopefully nothing, b/c I don't really feel like adding something else to my list of fun this pregnancy - we shall see!
