Need opinions on these hospitals for delivery

Hi everyone!

I just got a BFP for our second pregnancy.

With DS, I carried my own health insurance since I was working. I delivered at Northwestern Memorial/Prentice downtown.

Now that I SAH, I have DH's insurance. And well, it kind of sucks! (I know, I sound ungrateful!). Anyhow, I wasn't happy with the GYN I went too for my yearly recently and now that I need an OB...well the search is on NOW!

Our insurance covers these hospitals. Can anyone give me any info--good, bad, great stories vs. horror stories? Thanks!

Illinois Masonic, Louis A. Weiss Memorial, Skokie Hospital (I'm not even sure this hos. has a birthing center, and other NorthShore hospitals are not covered on our plan), St. Francis and Swedish Convenant.

Any insight would be great. I live on the North side of the city (Lincoln Square/Andersonville Area). Thanks!!!

    Congratulations! I used to work for NorthShore and Skokie Hospital used to be Rush North Shore. They closed their L&D unit though because it was so close to St Francis and Evanston Hospital. I delivered DD at Evanston. I have a friend who delivered at St Francis and was very happy with her experience. My cousin delivered at Swedish and was not too happy. I am not sure if the details why, though. GL to you! I wish I was more helpful.

    I delivered in the 'burbs.  But, I wanted to say that I'd avoid Swedish if at all possible.  I realize that ER and L&D can be very different within the same hospital.  But, when my DH had to go to their ER for stitches in his scalp we had a disasterous and dangerous experience.

    Long story really short Drs didn't know what RNs had and hadn't done.  If I didn't have some basic knowledge of medical procedure DH would have never had the would (which was caused by rusted metal) cleaned.  Plus, after all was said and done they took so long that the original lidocaine wore off and the first two staples were inserted with no paid meds for DH - he almost passed out.

    The ER doc then went into a diatribe about how understaffed they are and how they don't have enough nurses and we should send a letter because it's a dangerous place, etc etc.

    I have heard good things about Illinois Massonic and St Francis, though.

    I haven't delivered yet ....

     

    but if I remember correctly ... St. Fran is affiliated with Resurrection Hospitals and Res. blows! (sorry, personal experience / opinion ... no offense to anyone who loves it) Northshore is suppose to have one of the best NICUs. 

    I have yet to hear anything about L&D at Swed ... ask to take tours of each hospital you're interested in and ask questions or do some online investigating (not that THAT always helps or is accurate)

    I'm del at Swedish, i live in lincoln square, and being close to the hospital is important.  Although i haven't experienced the del process yet, i am very pleased with the hospital and doc's that i have seen in the past there, along with my OB (Dr. Brennan).  i also know personally many of the nurses there and they all know and like all 4 of the OB's in the practice i'm at.  i always like to have recommendations and the inside scoop if available.   

    As for the other hospitals, Masonic seems good, but i have only been there for  ultrasounds.  It really isn't convenient to me cause its so close to clark street and there is currently road construction around the hospital .  hope this helps good luck

    congrats! this isn't super close, but not super far, Resurrection medical center.  I had ds there and had the BEST experience ever!  Seriously I couldn't have asked for anything better!
    Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever!     I'm totally laughing at the res blows comment.  I loved it, but as always, there's going to be people who hated it.

    I am not sure of the exact name, but you can message me for more information. ?However a friend of mine, swears by her midwifery/Ob-gyn group at Swedish Cov.....

    I went to undergrad down the street, and whenever I had to go to the doctor I always had a pleasant experience.
