She used to be a bottomless pit. I mean, seriously. She ate way more/better than DS, but lately she's eating probably half what she was eating before (quantity-wise). She is still (so far) eating the things she used to and isn't picky about veggies yet. But I'm just noticing her apetite is not nearly what it was before. I admit it worries me just a smidge b/c she's a peanut and there was some concern about her growth a few months ago. She's in the 15th-ish percentile for both height and weight (up from the 7th). That was when she was eating a TON.
Anyway, she's also not wild about her milk lately either. I can maybe get her to drink a full cup (5 oz) a day and she's still nursing 3-4 times a day, but that's it. I guess I'll keep offering her the cup, but she just ends up throwing it on the floor repeatedly and making a mess with it. Thoughts?
Re: Her apetite has taken a hit.
Could it be the recent change of environment? or has she been doing this for a few weeks now??
Chase's appetite has been a little strange lately too. He will stuff his face all day long, but when dinner time rolls around, he barely eats anything and just goes right to sleep. it makes me sad.
Seth's appetite has been up and down a lot lately. I've attributed it to his molars coming in. He's got 2 on top that have cut through, one on the bottom that is about to bust the gumline (it makes my mouth hurt looking at it!), and then another one on the bottom that is on the move. He's not really picky about types of food either, but he just doesn't want to eat very much.
He loves the freeze-dried strawberries and bananas that Gerber and Target Brand make, so I offer those a LOT, along with other staples like raisins and cheerios. Last night, I made whole wheat english muffins with veggie puree as a spread, small pieces of spinach, and then covered them in cheese. He ate about two-thirds of one, which I considered a success for dinner... if that tells you what things are like over here, hahaha. He drinks about 7oz of milk a day, maybe a bit more on a good day. He's nursing 2-3 times a day.
Seth is also on the small end - 25% at 12mo. Pedi says just to go with it - toddlers are busy and will eat best if offered lots throughout the day. GL!
Thanks for the ideas, ladies. She's definitely not in her "routine" and things have been kind of crazy for the last few weeks. She's also cutting teeth, the weather is getting super-hot and so there's a lot going on.
I won't worry unless she's not doing well at her 15 month appt.
Ben hasn't been eating as much the last few days too. He normally sucks down every single drop of his morning 8oz bottle. Today, he drank 1/2 of it and would not touch the rest. He did the same thing with one of his bottles yesterday afternoon too. And I've been trying to offer him new foods (since it seems his horrific gag reflex is finally going away/gone)...and sometimes he's super interested and other times, he looks at me like, "What do you expect me to do with that?!"
Althought, I haven't had the weight concerns that you have, so I can imagine that makes this all the more frustrating.
I know that you BF, but could you supplement w/ some formula or give her Carnation Instant breakfast to help 'beef' her up/make sure she's getting the nutrients she needs?
Sierra's deeffinitely cut down how much she's eating - she used to have a hallow leg! Now she's eating 1/3rd - 1/2 of what she used to eat, and sometimes she has no interest what so ever. She does have 4 bottles a day of whole milk (probably about 18-22oz worth total) - if you're nursing 3-4 times + 5oz she's getting enough milk probably.
My pedi actually made a point to tell me that lots of new moms get freaked out during the 14-24 month mark because most babies don't gain a ton of weight and stop wanting to eat as much - and not to worry because it's completely normal. Sooo I'm rolling with that ever time I eyeball how little she's had
Don't know if that helps or not, but I trust him!
